James Of England:Rubio’s voting is nicely summarized in a chart in this great post a bout why Rubio didn’t get the endorsement of moderates

In fairness to Rubio’s critics, I think a congressional voting record is a weak predictor of how “conservative” an individual would be as president, especially if that individual is a first-term Senator (although this same critique applies to Cruz).

Given the rules of the senate and its size of 100, the influence of any single vote by a single Senator is relatively inconsequential. As a result, it’s easy for Senators to game their votes with an eye toward their “report card” without having many negative consequences – especially in the case of Rubio, who has announced he won’t be running for re-election to the Senate.

Working in a “hard” scientific field, one comes to recognize that certain questions simply cannot be meaningfully answered with quantitative data. This is one of them.

Wow! I thought I was cynical.

Why cynical? I’m not saying I think Rubio or Cruz is a closet liberal, just that statistical tracking of senate votes is not a slam-dunk piece of evidence.

Well, fine. Then I refer you to the rest of the article. Or to the breadth of his critics case. When you saw the link, you knew what it was to, right?

Sure, politics attracts this sort. But its funny to me that people still want to call Rubio a ‘Tea Party’ conservative. Sure he ran as one, but then he huddled with ‘Tea Party opposition’ after election.

Rubio may be many things, but a ‘tea party’ conservative is highly debatable.

That’s why the endorsement of Tea Party folks is so helpful. Is Tim Scott anti-Tea Party? Trey Gowdy? Joe Wilson? Jim Inhofe? Bobby Jindal? Ex-Club For Growth President Pat Toomey? Mia Love? If the Tea Party’s greatest heroes are split between Trump and Rubio, are they all fooled, are they all false friends, or are the doubts overplayed?
