Judge: Willis or Wade Must Go

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee has ruled that District Attorney Fani Willis’ relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade did not amount to a conflict of interest that warranted dismissal of the case against former President Donald Trump.

However, due to the appearance of impropriety one of the two must remove themself from the case.

“As the case moves forward, reasonable members of the public could easily be left to wonder whether the financial exchanges have continued resulting in some form of benefit to the District Attorney, or even whether the romantic relationship has resumed.

“Put differently, an outsider could reasonably think that the District Attorney is not exercising her independent professional judgment totally free of any compromising influences. As long as Wade remains on the case, this unnecessary perception will persist.”

The entire order can be read here.

Update: Nathan Wade has resigned from the case.

    Chris O:

Her primary challenger has a solid prosecutorial resume. I think she has some work to do and just 8-9 weeks to do it.

He leans towards the Soros side. He had to file paperwork to meet the deadline but told CBS he had not yet decided if he’ll run.

Just the fact that she has a strong challenge from within the party suggests her status/position is not viewed as tenable. The only reason it should happen is if the party is afraid they’ll lose in the general, even with a 3 to 1 advantage.

I don’t know how strong he is. He ran in the primary 4 years ago and came in 3rd. He ran for state AG in 2022 and got obliterated.

If he’s not a black woman, he may be doomed.

Looks like Byron York doesn’t think the timing of these cases is (as all Never Trumpers insist) an amazing coincidence:

“So it’s fair to say Lawfareland is a little jumpy these days. With Biden trailing Trump in many polls, and the election getting closer every day, it’s frantic for a court, any court, to convict Trump of something in time to help Biden win. Some are pointing fingers at the Biden Justice Department for not indicting Trump earlier. Some are mad at the Supreme Court for not smoothing the way for a quick Trump trial. Some are mad at the media for not being even more anti-Trump. The nervousness will not ease unless a prosecutor can send Trump to jail before Election Day.”  (Emphasis mine.)

    Per CNN:

Now, she’s facing at least two new hurdles: Democrat Christian Wise Smith, a former Fulton prosecutor and Atlanta solicitor, on Friday launched a primary campaign challenging Willis.

As I said, I wasn’t aware if he was politically strong. It likely will be more a question of the public perception of her. She took their money and went on lavish vacations. Might mean something to them, or they might see her as being targeted. We’ll see.

Even if I was all about getting Trump,I’d vote for this guy. She is so clearly corrupt.

    Themself????

It’s the accepted Oxford Dictionary usage.

”Used instead of “himself” or “herself” to refer to a person of unspecified sex.

“’The casual observer might easily think themself back in 1945’” In the words of the great Casey Stengel, “You could look it up!”

Megyn Kelly has been doing extensive coverage of this scandal as it unfolded …

Her theory of the case is that the judge wants re-election, now that he has a democrat challenger he didn’t want to anger the Political Machinery around Fani Willis and have them mobilize against his re-election… So he softened his actions as much as possible (and beyond) for Fani.

However – he fails to realize that he’s republican, he only needs to hold office for the democrat machinery to mobilize against him. So he should have given a proper ruling on the case, so that he could have republican defenders vouch for his character and fairness… So now he’s put him no man’s land, Democrats are mobilized, and republicans dont care if he loses.

It may be accepted by the woke elites, just like they accept that a girl can become a boy; but that doesn’t mean that it makes sense.

Themself was used for the plural from at least 1382 (and possibly for close to 200 years before that), and for the singular from around 1450 on.

So, no, I’m not exactly being faddish in my pronoun usage.

Shorter form of the Judge’s ruling:

Only one liar may present the case to the court.

Nah. He doesn’t care about the affair or that they’re both liars. It’s just the appearance of impropriety.

Same motivation as the female half of the TDS-afflicted. They hate the guy who made a crude joke, but voted for Digital Joe.

A person of the left is one that places their mind above reality.

It was always going to be Wade who “left,” and not just because Willis is a “strong black woman.”  It’s because if Willis left that took the whole Fulton County DA’s office out of it too.  Wade leaving only takes Wade out of it.  Plus he’s already gotten the money and not done very much work, so it’s sort of a “golden parachute” for him.

A usage or two of “themself” in 1382 and 1450 has nothing to do with why they are pushing it now. The woke elites are trying to replace “himself” as the gender neutral in order to imply that English speakers have been misogynists for centuries. In fact, that hasn’t been the case. Everyone understood that “himself” was the gender neutral for human beings and that it didn’t exclude women.

“Themself” is also illogical. Them is plural and self is singular, which is consistent with every other usage in standard English. (ourselves, yourselves).

But it’s not illogical. You have a plurality in those that had a choice but a singular in the number of people that needed to choose it.

That would get pretty tiresome after about the 3rd repetition in a sentence or paragraph.

However, due to the appearance of impropriety one of the two must remove themself from the case.

    Here are two alternatives:

However, due to the appearance of impropriety one of the two prosecutors must resign from the case.

The second alternative does seem slanted towards – or against, depending how you see it – Wade.  And it’s not relevant that he’s the one that actually did resign from the case.
