Quote of the Day: My Hometown? Ricochet

In the 2022 film, Vengeance, a resident of a nowhere town in Texas is asked to describe where he lives by a New Yorker.  Ty the Texan responds, “This is the most wretched, godforsaken stretch of land on the face of the earth. And I’d never leave.”

Ben the New Yorker (played by writer/director B.J. Novak) answers, “Yeah. That’s how I feel about Twitter.”

Not only is that a funny line, but it’s also true for a lot of people. It made me wonder how many people’s primary residence now is online. They work here. It’s where their friends are. It’s where their enemies are. It’s where they play and rest and get worked up and worship. The question is, at this point, could they ever leave?

(BTW, I would recommend the film. Even though the role of Texas is played by New Mexico.)

Just watched it last night.  Interesting and not the ending we expected.  Some great moments and the Whatburger discussion was excellent.

I’ve been planning to watch it, but I think it’s still for rent. I definitely don’t feel like my primary residence is online, but neither do I feel that attached to Texas as my new state of residence. I like it, but I can’t help thinking of any place here with some element of natural charm that it’s pretty…for Texas.

Eustace is on my Must-Read list.  This is an example of why.

In fact, even if Klaus had the CDC issue an emergency order…

Every person whose blood-borne nano-sensors transmitted “Currently 5/16 or more White cis-Male” at the daily body scan must have at most 10 people on her-im-‘s Ricochet Must-Read List! or be re-educated, with the remains disposed of in an undisclosed location.

…Eustace would still be on it.

On-line lets us move physically but never leave the other place.  Since on-line, I have become less and less connected to local issues in my actual place of residence and more focused on national issues or state issues for the state I left a long time ago.  I have to force myself to sign up for the news feed of the local newspapers and watch at least 10 min of local news in the morning or evening.  I don’t think it’s a good thing and probably what I will end up doing is moving back to my original state where I will be in sync.

Most all my interactive mental life is now online. Most of my personal interaction is with family members and they are busy with the things that they find of most immediate attention in their lives and that rarely. corresponds to my attention to the threats I worry about.  Most of my analytical needs I come to Ricochet and I visit a few other sites for one-way communication. No tv and no social media other than as noted. This is my neighborhood.

Yeah, I don’t read enough local news, but I get some from social media feeds. Tried listening to the popular conservative radio host here, but I don’t like him as much as the national media podcasts I listen to. I like listening to Dan Crenshaw, who is my congressman, but he doesn’t tend to discuss local issues. His local issues are energy issues.

As I type this my wife is looking at a jewelry catalog (James Avery) that came in today’s mail. There is a Texas charm bracelet with multiple Whataburger charms.

Well, my local family has cast me out, so my Ricochet Family is my only family.  And I can totally understand it if Eustace is a bit down on our home town of Seattle.  It is run (into the ground) by the Far Left, with no sign of any change on the horizon.  And the DemocRats who run the state are bound and determined to run the rest of the state into the ground with  Covid restrictions, high taxes on high-earners, energy mandates (high gas tax, carbon tax, electric car mandates), and handcuffs on all levels of law enforcement.  Our Dictator has appeared on a local radio station, where he literally vowed never to give up the absolute power he has over the citizens.  Anyone interested can search for Brandi Kruse on Twitter, and hear her radio interview.

I watched the movie last night and it had me laughing out loud. B.J. Novak is a talented writer, even if I wondered about a major plot element after it was over. Trying to phrase without spoiling anything – how did the brother get Ben’s phone number?
