Hu Jintao Frogmarched from CCP Conference — Xi Brushes Hu

No doubt airbrushing is the wrong term for what just happened.  Toilet-brushed perhaps.

Of note, the guy to our (visual) right of Hu as he is finally led away.  His moment of indecision makes him seem like a Hu Jintao guy who suddenly realizes that he is now the newest Xi Jinping guy. Deputy human drama for this scene.

There have been rumblings of late that not all is well for Xi. The economy sucks. Taiwan is his woobie. Get Taiwan back, and his regime is glorified, even amplified. Were Taiwan allowed to turn into a Ukraine with Chinese characteristics, then Xi’s duck will be cooked Peking-style. Logistics were a mess in Ukraine. They would be an order of magnitude more difficult in Taiwan. He’s seen tanks better than his lit up like Ronsons by kids flying commercial UAVs dropping anti-tank grenades.

Taiwan manufactures commercial UAVs. Taiwanese kids tinker with those UAVs.

Hu’s public ousting says one thing: Xi is scared.

Not sure ‘scared’ is the right word. I think this public removal of the former leader Hu is Xi’s making the public declaration that none of the relatively open economic and social policies of his predecessor will have any place in Xi’s China going forward. None of Hu’s proteges or allies apparently have made it into the CCP’s new governing body of some 200+, all reliably Xi people. But it’s China, so “inscutable” remains an apt term.

Maybe, but “inscrutable” would be for Hu to just disappear. Or fall out of a window.

I did not introduce Trump into the conversation, he was introduced others.  This was a sad commentary about the CCP, but others had to introduce Trump into it.

For better or worse, like Trump, I am a counterpuncher.  I do note that Trump acolyte Kari Lake after she won her primary by a plurality, boasted that she had removed the ghost of John McCain from Arizona politics.  (John McCain won all of his races in Arizona by anywhere between a 54% landslide and a 78% stomping.  In Arizona, the best Trump ever did was 48%, losing the second time in 2020.  Trump has never won a majority of the popular vote in Arizona’s general election.)

Trump was, by far, the most rude of any Republican President to a former Republican nominee.

Y’all want to remove us.  We ain’t leaving.  This is our party too.  You would be better off making peace with us instead of attacking us.  You can’t be surprised when we attack back.

I am off to canvass against Kari Lake; I would not be canvassing for Democrats if Karrin Taylor Robson had won the governor’s primary.  (So damn close!)  But, I love my Country far more than I love my party.

Prior to being removed from the room, Hu was sitting next to Xi in the front of the 20th Party Congress.  See this clip at the 50 second point.

This article about the event is a fun read. I communicate with Engrish-speakers often, but almost never encounter such literate Engrish.

He used the word “beadle.” That means the author’s Engrish is of the English strain, not the American.

Or he watched The McLaughlin Group a lot.

Right. Traditional commie airbrushing is supposed to be ignored, as if it never happened.

I suppose that the “Hu/who?” joke has now reached its final form.

Not limited to commies though. Remember the Bath congress in Iraq where different people were called out to leave the congress hall?

Close enough. IIRC The Ba’ath Party was an Islamic totalitarian Socialism; by any other name.

Wasn’t the Ba’ath party a socialist party made by Christians to limit Islam?

Many of its founders in both Syria and Iraq were Christian. But the point of the party was to be secular. Successors of Nasser. Sadam would co-opt Islam as needed. Sadam was also a CIA agent for a long time and dropped as needed.

Yes, I think that this is exactly right.  Xi may have been scared between a couple of years ago and up to maybe six months ago.  He is now the dictator for an “unprecedented” third term, and has only grown more ruthless as he consolidated power.  The worse things have gotten oin China, the better it has gotten for Xi, as opposition needs a base.  City-wide lockdowns isolating neighborhoods and buildings (as in gates welded shut and armed guards, not “lockdowns” like we have in the west) in major cities force all communication to be electronic, which is of course monitored and largely controlled.  The Evergrande implosion wiped out the slush fund of one of the major factions against Xi.  And the current drought, exacerbated and made acute by long and short-term water policy keep heads down, with people now desperate to maintain even the first rung of Maslow’s hierarchy.

Evergrande was about the Shanghai group, which Hu was a member of. Exactly how much Hu had to do with Evergrande policy, I don’t know. All the stuff on Chinese GDP was always b s. When 38% of your GDP is for the construction of housing nobody is going to live in, it’s a joke.

Frankly, from a US perspective, Xi winning is in the long term a good thing because Xi is a disaster in terms of economic development. He is a through-and-through Maoist. The zero Covid tolerance policy still survives. Access to chips has been cut off, so all the dreams of China 2025 are dust. The entire idea that China will take Taiwan will recede by the day – which means the US should ratchet things down. Don’t have Nancy Pelosi going over there as a Democrat Party fundraising stunt to get donations from rich Taiwanese-American businessmen. I thought it was funny all the guesswork on ‘why is Nancy going to Taiwan’. Duh.

Once again, I state what I have always known about tyrants.  They can never, ever sleep.  They know that there are always more of “them” than there are of “us”, and when things get bad enough for “them”, nothing can stop their uprising and bringing down the tyrant.  A tyrant like Xi can never trust anyone, not even his toadies and sycophants.  No one below him can ever sleep, either.  They know that one wrong step, one wrong word, will bring the hammer of the State down on them.  Because this is so, they determine to keep all bad news away from the tyrant, lest he think it is their fault and ruin them.  But especially now, bad news pops up everywhere, especially due to the zero-Covid policy.  The purges will continue as long as Xi remains in power.  Everyone is at risk, even Xi’s wife and family, and he knows this.  He thinks he can control everyone, but he can’t-no one can.

Another effect of the zero-Covid policy is that the entire population of Communist China is vulnerable to the virus.  Since the virus has not been allowed to circulate among the population and confer immunity, when it does escape it will cause increased unnecessary devastation.  Communist China’s population is already shrinking due to the one-child policy, and without the human capital, economic growth is impossible.

Neither do I. Maybe Hu was part of a shadowy cabal. If so, they are either going, or already gone. However, if Xi doesn’t know, this move makes more sense than one-way helicopter rides for the lot.

The first of the bolded points remains to be seen. The US moving back into “rolling our own” is welcome, if we sustain it. The second could be a problem. Xi could be operating in a bubble similar to the one that had Putin convinced that the thrust on Kyiv was viable. Actually, Vladimir getting a spanking is probably paying benefits in that regard. Seeing T-90 tanks being towed off the battlefield by Ukrainian combines should cause a reevaluation or two.

It looks like Hu is the designated scapegoat for the impending economic collapse; blame the problems on predecessors and clamp down even harder on dissent, both popular and within the Communist Party itself.

Will such old-school Communist practices work in modern China?  Will an increasingly desperate Xi throw the dice on an invasion of Taiwan?

At least you being out on the streets…  keeps you off the streets…  or something.

Actually the service it probably provides the most is taking up time when you would otherwise be trolling here.  So in that sense, I’m happy that Katie Hobbs is running stumbling for office.

This article about the event is a fun read. I communicate with Engrish-speakers often, but almost never encounter such literate Engrish.

He used the word “beadle.” That means the author’s Engrish is of the English strain, not the American.

Or he watched The McLaughlin Group a lot.

(And I thought he meant Beatle, referring to the haircut…)

And what is significantly different about this and Trump’s the Left’s burning desire perpetual attempt to do the same to former nominees John McCain, and Mitt Romney Donald Trump (and the rest of anyone of us who disagree with him)?

    Absolutely nothing.

Gee, the Democrats gave you Kari Lake and killed off your desired nominee, so you react by supporting the Democrats. How does this make any sense at all?

Of course it doesn’t, but [standard comment the mods told me to stop using].

He’s 79. (Who? Hu.)   It’s as likely to be a senior moment as anything else.
