Hu Jintao Frogmarched from CCP Conference — Xi Brushes Hu

No doubt airbrushing is the wrong term for what just happened.  Toilet-brushed perhaps.

Of note, the guy to our (visual) right of Hu as he is finally led away.  His moment of indecision makes him seem like a Hu Jintao guy who suddenly realizes that he is now the newest Xi Jinping guy. Deputy human drama for this scene.

Right. Traditional commie airbrushing is supposed to be ignored, as if it never happened.

I suppose that the “Hu/who?” joke has now reached its final form.

Not limited to commies though. Remember the Bath congress in Iraq where different people were called out to leave the congress hall?

Close enough. IIRC The Ba’ath Party was an Islamic totalitarian Socialism; by any other name.

Wasn’t the Ba’ath party a socialist party made by Christians to limit Islam?

No Henry, anything Arab is about Islamic Terrorism, did you not get the memo?

Yes I know it’s tough on Arab Socialists, or Christians, or Druze, but there you go.  KISS, okay?

He’s 79. (Who? Hu.) It’s as likely to be a senior moment as anything else.

Only if he was throwing food, shouting like Biden, or otherwise incontinent before the video starts.  It’s not like he simply cannot find the exit.  He is definitely being removed from his seat and the hall.

The Chinese official line to the outside world (the announcement was published in English in Xinhua) is that it was for health reasons. But then, why have all references to Hu been scrubbed from Chinese social media? Furthermore, nothing has been in the Chinese internal press about this. That this was witnessed by only party faithful and the world outside China is as likely to be conveying a targeted message.

I did not introduce Trump into the conversation, he was introduced others. This was a sad commentary about the CCP, but others had to introduce Trump into it.

For better or worse, like Trump, I am a counterpuncher. I do note that Trump acolyte Kari Lake after she won her primary by a plurality, boasted that she had removed the ghost of John McCain from Arizona politics. (John McCain won all of his races in Arizona by anywhere between a 54% landslide and a 78% stomping. In Arizona, the best Trump ever did was 48%, losing the second time in 2020. Trump has never won a majority of the popular vote in Arizona’s general election.)

Trump was, by far, the most rude of any Republican President to a former Republican nominee.

Y’all want to remove us. We ain’t leaving. This is our party too. You would be better off making peace with us instead of attacking us. You can’t be surprised when we attack back.

I am off to canvass against Kari Lake; I would not be canvassing for Democrats if Karrin Taylor Robson had won the governor’s primary. (So damn close!) But, I love my Country far more than I love my party.

Gee, the Democrats gave you Kari Lake and killed off your desired nominee, so you react by supporting the Democrats. How does this make any sense at all?

But what? I mean did Hu have any power within the CCP, in comparison to Xi?

Saddam’s brutal purge of the Ba’ath Congress (??) was actually a physical purge.  You can hear those people being shot outside after they’re being led away – and circulating (or allowing) that video to circulate was a clear flex, intimidation, message to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.

It was a power move, but a move by a power that was still consolidating and that was vulnerable.

With Hu – I don’t see the point.  Xi is not in the position Saddam was at that point.  Or is he?

There have been two factions in the CCP, the Shanghai group and the group that owes its allegiance still to Mao (and his wife). They have been vying for power since Mao’s death. The Shanghai group was able to have power because China was so desperately broke. It was a situation very similar to the Soviet Union after the War Communism period when the Civil War ended in 1922. As a result, a period of economic reform ensued allowing individuals to take initiative in business. China could feed itself. A middle class arose in China. It was a period of very rapid urbanization. It was a period in which foreign companies could produce goods in China. It was a period in which foreigners were confused about the nature of China and started thinking it was really capitalist. As a result of that confusion, foreigners started propagating nonsense about how China was just like us and as the Chinese got wealthier, then human rights, democracy, blah, blah, blah would ensue. Pure wishful thinking nonsense. It was a period in which the Chinese Communist Party maintained firm and resolute control on power. Beginning in about 2008, the opening up started slowly reversing. The Shanghai group started losing power and the Maoist group started gaining power. The initial election of Xi was a sign of the change, but the Shanghai faction still had power. That power has waned ever since. This is the clearest indication of how far the shift has gone.

I doubt Hu will be taken out and shot. I doubt anything bad physically will happen to Hu. He probably will be under house arrest, lose his money inside China, and live out the rest of his life in obscurity.

It appears that everyone seated in the back rows is masked.  The guy escorting Hu away is masked.  But the people sitting in the front row are not masked.

Obviously.  In an authoritarian system like China’s wealth does not have the same sway over political power that it does in places like the West. I think it’s the other way round – that political power rules wealth, not least because holding on to your wealth is conditional.

Definitely policy differences as well as top dog.

The Shanghai group wants to have good relations with the west. Xi wants to stand up to the west.

The Shanghai group wants Taiwan’s status to remain ambiguous with the thought Taiwan will eventually become part of China. Xi wants to be aggressive and clear up Taiwan’s status.

Hong Kong is a similar policy difference along the same lines as Taiwan.

The Shanghai group wants to continue growth policies, but everything they have done is based on leverage, i.e., debt. The Shanghai group is extremely corrupt. Xi uses that against them.

FYI: I very much disagree with the Duran about the importance of the chip ban. I think it is extremely damaging and the Chinese will find it almost impossible to get around this. There is far too much infrastructure they would have to construct and it would take decades to do. And in the meantime, the west will have moved on – unless they get complacent (something the west is good at). Another possibility is that the US will use the ban as a bargaining chip.

Xi is doing exactly what Biden is doing.  Erasing the legacy of his predecessor, so only his “accomplishments” will be noted in history.  Just like the US DemocRats, the CCP in China is rewriting history so their guy is painted as the Number One Savior.  Lucky for the CCP, their “history” isn’t nearly as long as ours, so they have less to change/erase.

Did he sic the permanent bureaucracy on them? Saying some stupid and using the power of the state are two different things.  Biden/Obama used the state against opponents (Obama used the IRS against the tea-party, used FBI against journalists who were tough on them, Biden is using the FBI against parents who protests the PTA, pro-life protesters and performing unnecessary raids on former Trump officials)
