We Almost Lost the Republic Again Thursday Night

Insurrectionist thugs instigated by violent rhetoric from Steven Colbert (pronounced COLbert) stormed House offices after hours last night. Their mission: to overthrow the government. Why else would they be there? Heroic Capitol police apprehended them after some time. Luckily, no blood was shed, by the grace of God.

I can’t stop shaking, thinking about how close we came to losing the republic last night. This marvelous experiment, almost lost to these traitorous thugs. I hope they are all detained in solitary. After all, how can they learn how to live in a free country unless we deprive them of a few basic rights?

Waiting for President Biden’s strong condemnation of what was essentially an act of war.

This is almost as funny as watching Joe falling off a bicycle that is not moving.

Yeah, I chuckled at the video, but mostly it’s sad.  There’s a certain dignity associated with the public display of the President of the United States.  But to fall over on his bike and to be led doddering off the stage by his wife is embarrassing to watch.

The incident comes amid heightened security

So they increased security and they still couldn’t stop them?

I’ve got an idea. Since Congress is so terrified let’s lock them in a secure vault hundreds of feet below the surface of the earth. That should put an end to it.

    Does that include air conditioning?

Why should they have it if we can’t afford to, because of their insane energy policies?

And since thousands of people have died since then, we must acknowledge that thousands of people died as a result of this.

That’s what I would tell them at any rate.

Wouldn’t need it at that depth. Might need extra blankets, though.

I suppose Jon is busy writing his editorial calling for Biden’s impeachment and removal from office.

When he could be here wise-cracking in an obscure corner of the Internet. His loss.

I thought everyone who dies, dies of COVID?

I couldn’t. I was already dead from tax cuts, Supreme Court justices, and withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement.

    You forgot Net Neutrality.

I also got partial amnesia when Jerusalem was recognized as the capital of Israel.

    I don’t remember that.

Seems like a waste of good blankets to me.

It really isn’t a riot until a Capitol police officer shoots and kills an unarmed woman, and then there’s a year of outrage about police violence towards women, etc., and murals of the deceased are painted on the sides of buildings as a tribute to her, and then things really change for the better because of the murals.

I can think of many things that are worth doing rather than watching Colbert at 11:00 PM, some of them are actually legal.

    I had a self-imposed curfew while I was in college: Johnny Carson at 11:30 PM . . .

Nope.  Bad for the environment . . .

In the future, riots will have corporate sponsors, and the rioteers will have patches with those corporate logos sewn onto their black mime outfits by their moms.

Naw, it’s not #murals that changes things, it’s #statues.  Such as Saint George Floyd.

You beat me to it! I was going to ask if these people will be detained indefinitely like the 1/6 folks . . .

As close as they came to toppling the government? Yer dang right they should be detained indefinitely. I say reassign all Border Patrol agents to DC immediately before it falls to the forces of darkness and, nay, woe.

But . . . but . . . Colbert will have to write his own material!

No, he’ll be too busy testifying after he’s dragged into court for INCITEMENT! Obviously he ORDERED those men to attack the SACRED SPACE! And we nearly lost OUR DEMOCRACY!

Also, did you catch who let these people into the Capitol? ADAM SCHIFF!

    Impeach! Convict! Remove from office!

Drew, just relax. It is not a proper insurrection until Lt. Michael Byrd shoots an unarmed woman in the throat.
