What’s Happened to Washington DC?

We visited Washington in December and last week. The cherry blossoms were spectacular.

However, the stores in Georgetown look like a disaster has hit them since December. There are many more vacancies in just the last three months. I wonder if the vaccine mandate accounts for this.  It was in effect from the middle of January to March 1. That’s a very short period of time. Perhaps the carnage was too great to be ignored.

Unlike New York City, Washington is small geographically. Residents can easily travel to Maryland or Virginia. As Mark Steyn says, borders bring freedom. People could easily escape the vaccine mandate by patronizing restaurants in the freer states of Maryland and Virginia. This is one of the few times in recent memory that my native state of Maryland was freer by comparison. In places like New York City, the authoritarians were harder to escape.

Viva small countries and jurisdictions since it’s harder to enforce unconstitutional mandates even if the courts abandon us.

Well it is Trump’s fault.  Then there is his racist white supremacist domestic terrorist.  Of course the GOP has a fair share of the blame.  Then there is the systematic racism inherent in all of America.  But as soon as we groom as many children possible to become either homo or transsexual all will be well.

Hey that’s what I was gonna say!

Wow!  Even the Dictators of Washington State and King County lifted the vaccine and mask mandates.  Except for government employees, including police and firefighters.  They are losing staff like crazy, who refuse the vaccine.  Shopping is much less stressful now, though about 40% of the population still insists on remaining slaves and wearing the face diapers.

Plus, many Federal “workers”, parasitic DC lawyers, etc. are telecommuting from their beach houses.

There was a study recently that ranked the 50 States plus DC according to median earnings minus the taxes on that income over the lifetime of the worker.   The winner … by a lot … DC.  The Swamp cares for its own.

In an ideal world, DC would be in last place.

“As Mark Steyn says, borders bring freedom.”

This is why the Berlin Wall was erected: to negate the border.

I live very close to DC. Crime is absolutely out of control everywhere, including Georgetown.

Not true.  You are seeing mostly peaceful protest and a bit of social justice thrown in.

This article and the comments zero in on what’s going on and it’s just beginning. Or, perhaps the final end is approaching.   But it’s normal.  All societies end this way, we just thought we had arranged matters to avoid it, but it seems we didn’t.   Fixing it requires us to dump Washington and the major cities that house the forces that create it and reduce state bureaucracies by a huger percentage as we return to the original contitution.    Even sane aware folk don’t seem to realize what’s happening and what may need to be done.

I live in northern VA and never go to DC anymore. Too much crime. The two teenage girls carjacking and murdering that poor Uber driver was enough for me. Plus all the covid theater, the Metro is a disgrace and parking costs a fortune.

    No thanks.

I fled DC many years ago. I now live in the South. I hear horror stories from Christine Rosen on the Commentary Podcast. Can’t imagine visiting without personal security.
