We’re Zucked

Allison Gollust got Zucked by the boss (Photo: CNN)

CNN President Jeff Zucker has resigned. It was revealed this morning that Zucker has been carrying on a longtime affair with a subordinate, Executive VP and Chief Marketing Officer Allison Gollust.

Reportedly it was an open secret within the network but those in the know were afraid that if they were identified saying anything Zucker would exact revenge. It only came to light because of an outside law firm’s investigation in L’affaire de Chris Cuomo. In a previous life, Gollust had been Comms Director for none other than former NY Governor Andrew Cuomo. And before that, she worked in publicity at NBCUniversal.

Zucker, of course, came from NBC where he was the Executive Producer of Today. In her book, Going There, former Today anchor Katie Couric alluded to what was going on. Zucker tried to force Gollust into the role as the publicist on Couric’s ill-fated daytime talker.

They were joined at the hip. The problem was, we’d already hired a PR person for the show. There really wasn’t a role for Allison.

I had to wonder why Jeff was angling so hard to bring Allison on board. She and her husband and kids had moved into the apartment right above Jeff and Caryn’s — everyone who heard about their cozy arrangement thought it was super strange. By that point, Caryn (Zucker’s ex-wife) had become a close friend and it made me really uncomfortable.

When Zucker moved from NBC to CNN his first hire was Gollust. Quelle surprise.

In other media news, Whoopi Goldberg (real name Caryn Johnson) has been suspended by Disney for two weeks for suggesting the Holocaust was nothing more than an internal squabble between two groups of white people. “I think of race as being something that I can see,” she said. “So, I see you and I know what race you are.”

Evidently, all Jews look alike to Whoopi. Now, can we talk about her cultural appropriation of the name “Goldberg?”

EJHill: all Jews look alike to Whoopi.

This is not how I interpreted what she said. I thought she said she did not see a racial difference between German Jews and German Aryans. She saw just white people with one group claiming White Supremacy.

I agree with you more than halfway. She was saying the Holocaust wasn’t about race because the German Jews and German Aryans all looked like the same race to her.

I want to repeat something I wrote on the Daily Wire: Let’s say the year is something like 1930. Let’s say Goldberg is a very white looking woman with some black ancestry enrolling in a college in the South. (I read, at that time, there sometimes were employees at some colleges whose job it was to check the ancestry of students to make sure no one passing for white got or stayed in the school.) So let’s say Goldberg is kicked out because she’s discovered to have black ancestry. Now, it’s still the case, obviously, that all the students at the college look to be what we now consider to be the same race—-white. Whoopi Goldberg is certainly predominantly of that race. That’s why she looks white. And she certainly isn’t being told to leave because she suddenly got darker. My question to Whoopi Goldberg would be: is the persecution she would be experiencing in this imaginary situation—-this situation that was quite real for a lot of people who tried to “pass” as white—-is the persecution about race? I think it very much is.

yes, I grew up in Georgia and that is the way it was as I understand  before I was born. My experience socially began after WWII and it was changing rapidly.

Zucker will never suffer.  Once you’re in the club at a certain level, you never leave it.  He will always get jobs or positions and will always have tremendous amounts of money.

My last boss when I worked at Dell was an idiot.  No need for details, we’ll just state that and leave as a given.  When my entire group got laid off because he had made us useless, he quickly got another high status job at some other company because they saw that he was a director at Dell.  It probably took a couple years for the full depth of his idiocy was understood, and then he probably continued on somewhere else equally lucrative.

This is one of the tragic farces of life.  Dan Rather betrayed every standard we expected of a j-urinalist back then and was fired.  Does he now live on the streets, down and out?   No.  He’s 90 now but he got lots of good jobs after he was fired in shame.  He’s most likely enjoying a very comfortable retirement.  There’s no justice for lying scum, and Zucker will also never suffer.

Yeah, but if you fire one idiot, who knows where it’s going to end?  Wouldn’t be prudent.

    Now that’s funny!

But only because it is true.

Regarding Goldberg, I have to note the simplicity of her mind. To Whoopi, all white people are of the same race – that much is clear. I wonder if she sees racial distinctions between peoples of more melanin.

Regarding Zucker, I don’t understand. The relationship was consensual. So what if they kept it private? This isn’t some organization that values morality, this is CNN. Seriously, is that relationship enough to can Zucker? Of course not – he’s out because CNN is in the toilet and circling.

Regarding Zuckerberg, and Soros, Schwab, and a few others, well you can’t make an omelet without making some mess and leaving the dishes for some dumb lefty to clean up.

Honestly, race is a pretty nebulous definition.  Jews are a “race” only because it is politically convenient to label them as such.  They are a Semitic people originally, and Semitic people are as White as Italians, Greeks, and any other Mediterranean people.

As far as arbitrary definitions of race go, the United States only recognizes four races:  white/caucasian (which includes most Jews), Black, Asian, and American Indian.  Everything else is considered an ethnicity.  (Again things may have changed, but that was the policy at least in the 1990’s.

So, if you’re from India, according to the US Government, you’re a caucasian.  If you’re from Sweden, you’re a caucasian.

If you’re from a place like Cuba you can be either caucasian, American Indian, or black, and your ethnicity would be hispanic.

So, was it racial to kill off the Jews?  Well, it depends on what you mean by race.  Clearly the Germans don’t share the US Government’s definitions of race.  What the hell do we care what they think?  They were monsters.

So, we can enjoy a laugh at the absurdity that is Whoopi, as she puts her foot in her mouth again.  But she wasn’t completely wrong, except that you just can’t say some things in our country of free speech.

Looks like the real story is now out. Latest word is that Zucker worked to persuade Governor Cuomo to do the interaction he did with his brother at CNN

And more. It looks like Zucker fired Cuomo and wouldn’t honor the 18 million Cuomo had coming in his contract. Cuomo knew of his affair, as did many others and implied earlier that he might spill the beans, which he now has done. Company policy – that is what Zucker fired Coumo for violating – was being violated by Zucker himself. That policy was you had to report to HR if you were romantically involved with another employee regardless of the positions held.

Zucker may have been fine with a way to avoid being fired based on CNN’s bottom feeding ratings and poor performance. I don’t think they have staff capable of a revival.

Ratings are no longer the force you think they are. Just based on US distribution they have a $1B pouring in before one ad is sold. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. It’s international edition is seen in 150M homes and hotels in 200 countries.

There’s probably a lot more to it than that. I suspect the Cuomos had something on him and were threatening to come out with it. Other news bits I’ve read in the last week suggested that pretty much everyone at CNN had something on him.

Goldberg: The Nazis lied. It wasn’t. They had issues with ethnicity, not with race, because most of the Nazis were white people and most of the people they were attacking were white people. So to me, I’m thinking, “How can you say it’s about race if you are fighting each other?”

What jumped out at me was that she thought the Jews were fighting the Nazis.

I dunno. Maybe the Dems are bringing back their old “one drop rule.” Or she (I hope I guessed right) identifies as black. Or the Baltimore Sun page setter munged up the composition.
