Your Picks for the Best and Worst of 2021

A lot of websites and podcasts are sharing their year-end lists and I thought Ricochet members should have their own. Here are the categories; you can share your picks in the comments below. (Mine will be in the comments as well since I’m more interested in your choices than mine.) You can interpret these categories any way you see fit. Happy list-making!

  1. Best/Worst Republican Politician of 2021
  2. Best/Worst Democrat Politician of 2021
  3. Best/Worst Political Play of 2021
  4. Most Underreported/Overreported Story of 2021
  5. Best Movie of 2021
  6. Best TV Show of 2021
  7. Best Book of 2021
  8. Best Podcast (on Ricochet or elsewhere) of 2021

I think we can all agree on what the worst Ricochet post was.

    Not really helpful.

I’m sure they’d like to forget it, but it’s forever cemented as the most significant thing that happened on this site last year.

There are many other good candidates for the most significant, worst thing that happened on this site. It’s not going to do any good to discuss them in those terms.

Okay, so discussing the best/worst of polarizing posts that split the member base is off-limits. Got it.

Sorry to interrupt the patting of the backs. Unfollowing.

    1. No such thing as a “best” politician
    2. See above
    3. I’m not brain-damaged enough to care
    4. All stories are overreported. Abolish the news
    5. I saw three. The French Dispatch was the only good one, but it was pretty good
    6. Don’t watch much TV. The new season of I Think You Should Leave was hilarious
    7. I’m illiterate
    8. C**town. The answer will always and forever be C**town. I fear for the day it ends, and I’ll have nowhere to turn to listen to three grown men discuss what if Batman was gay, and almost say the n word. If you don’t like that, rest easy knowing they make $90k every month on Patreon

Jon Gabriel, Ed.: Best Podcast (on Ricochet or elsewhere) of 2021

The John Batchelor Show is the best podcast on the internet. Not only is he brilliant and interested in a wide range of topics that often include world history and how we can learn from it, but his guests are exceptionally well informed. I listen to him every day.

Best: Sen. Kyrsten Sinema. I still think she’s playing a long game and bears close watching, but her important choices are ones I agree with (so far).

She was a shameless whack job progressive prior to the senate.

True, but at least she seems capable of not being completely bound by it.  Sure, she’s still whacky, but I like her . . .

Tulsi Gabbard also has a socialist ***voting record***.

I suppose I wish for the second coming of Scoop Jackson just like Ricochet’s Leading Never Trumper™ but people on the right need to be careful about this type of thing.

True, but I don’t dislike her either.  What I do like is folks like Gabbard, Sinema, and Manchin when they buck their leadership.  One commenter pointed out that the MSM praises “mavericks” when they go against their Republican Party leadership, but refers to “heretics” when it’s within the Democrat Party . . .

Yeah.  I’m “conflicted” about those categories.  I don’t think it’s necessarily a compliment to single someone out as as the “best” politician.  If I had to pick the best “politicians” I’d have to include Pelosi, and Biden, simply because–although they are two corrupt and loathsome people–they’re still in power, seriously affecting my life in both large and small ways, living luxuriously and opulently and accumulating incredible wealth ( particularly in Biden’s case) almost exclusively dishonestly, at national and public expense, and in ways damaging to the country.

And yet, there they still are.

    1. Best Podcast (on Ricochet or elsewhere) of 2021 – Michael Malice’s Your Welcome always makes me think.

I think people on the right would do well to pay attention to Michael Malice.

    Same thing with David Stockman.

They may be wrong about some things but you need to be able to explain it.

    LOL

Just like if it’s a scandal … if Republican, they report on the scandal 24/7; if Democrat, they report on how the bad Republicans are taking advantage of the poor democrat’s scandal.
