So Far, So Good
I don’t write in a journal. If I did, this morning’s entry would be something like this.
I joined this thing called Ricochet yesterday. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Ordinarily wouldn’t pay for such, but had the thought that if there were indeed things worth reading, they could be worth paying to read. After all, I pay to read books. And as a general rule, you get what you pay for.
The first thing I read was a post about dogs in the military and it was a good post, so it was a good start. The post conveyed the idea that a dog may be considered more valuable than a human, considering the training and all that goes into having one good service dog and the difficulty in replacing them. The thought occurs to me this morning, the average dog may well be worth more than the average adult human, without the training.
There was a post of someone who was leaving; giving up the online social world, which is certainly understandable and perhaps even commendable. I’d like to get away from computers and smartphones. Though without spell check, I wouldn’t have been able to determine so easily if it was smartphones or smartphones, so that is handy. It’s easy to let the tech doggie tail wag the human who uses it. I spent too much time on Ricochet yesterday. But maybe not. After all, it was my day to do with as I please and I was reading things that prompted me to read other things and learn things. Gaining knowledge is a hard pastime to beat.
I fell asleep last night thinking about The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America. I woke up this morning thinking about the same. I wonder if we had kept the name as the united States of America, that maybe the average person would have a better grasp of where the bulk of the authority is supposed to rest.
I read several other posts. Weird or a better word may be strange or we can go with unique, is that these folks seem to think about things before they type them out.
Side note for those reading this one-time journal entry is I use social media for business purposes and often check it as a distraction from other tasks, like a break at the water cooler, to see what is happening and often am disappointed, if not disillusioned. Less time spent on social media yesterday which was a plus and I think I may have actually slept better than average.
So far, so good.

Hi, Lawst, Welcome. Yes, we get all kinds here. Doctors, lawyers, nurses, teachers, psychologists, pilots and clowns. Musicians and mathematicians. Film makers and philosophers, free-lance and otherwise. Soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines. Mule-skinners and weasel wranglers, sometimes wearing the same shoes. But mostly we’re pretty big on software writers and novelists and writers of every kind. So if that’s your cup of tea, put some bourbon in it, pull up a chair and sit a while.
The more the merrier or is that marryer, no the great google says merrier. Anyway, don’t mind @drbastiat, he has a drinking problem.
Whatever problem @drbastiat has should afflict more people.
Welcome aboard. I’m glad you are here, and trust that you’ll get your money’s worth.
You will notice that your post has been promoted to the main feed. You will also notice that sometimes the editors do their editing thing in prep for feeding main, and so smart_phones is now spelled consistently, perhaps even correctly.
That’s interesting.
May I be the 37th to welcome you to Ricochet. My Ricochet Family (see post below) continues to expand.
Plus, in German a smartphone is a Handy, and you posted right after @hartmannvonaue, our man in Germany. Coincidence??
Gotta watch for those little moments. Willkommen!
An important point. Back in my CompuServe days I made a presentation that showed that I could free-flag everyone who ever posted a message and still make money. I was liberal with free flags and was taken to task for it, so I lined up the numbers. 8% of the people who paid to spend time in the Forums posted messages. They were my content providers. I made my point and was not criticized further, at least for that.
There were several apps that would download all the latest stuff and let you read and reply offline, then upload your responses. We encouraged them. (I was 76703,3041)
Welcome. I think it’s worth the cost.
Unlike most comment sections, Ricochet’s Member Feed is full of comments by people who actually live and understand the subject about which they write – they live there, they work in the industry, they own or manage businesses, they have researched or studied the field, etc.
It does sort of take the joke out of the text doesn’t it.
It’s been on my mind to say thank you to everyone for the comments. It, the thank you, keeps slipping off.
It’s not unlike moving to a new town. You’ve visited and driven around the streets, but some things you don’t know until you get moved in. Thankful to see a lot of different-looking folks; the way they look at the world and not how the world might look at them.
I’m still unpacking boxes. Seems to be an interesting neighborhood.
So far, so good.
