It’s a cold, blustery day. C’mon in and have a hot cup of something.
Pay no attention to the grumpy old poet in the corner booth. It’s just another day in The Diner.

James, you are an artist. You take throw-away three-word comments and make them into several minutes of good stories and laughs. Cod bless ya, man.
I can’t tell you how many times I laughed in this 45-ish minutes.
Was “Norge” really pronounced that way? It’s not pronounced that way in Norge, er, Norway.
You just name a date, Mr. Lileks, and I’ll drive in to the cities and run a tabletop RPG for y’all. Invite Tatiana; I’m sure she’d be down.
Oh, how I love Mantovani–always have. Orchestrated pop music is the background noise of my childhood. Bring it back!
“keening” Yes! I need to remember that next time an unbearable song is playing at my local Kroger’s.
Sure was. Norge was the appliance division of BorgWarner and went through Fedders and then MagicChef and eventually Maytag. When Whirlpool acquired Maytag in 2006 they shut the nameplate down.
They were big sponsors during radio’s so-called “golden age,” ending with Red Skelton in the early 1950s.
I go back to your days on the mighty AM 1500 with Geoff Charles. I was attending the U of MN and working a job which I always had to work Friday afternoons. I begged my boss for a Friday off, and finally got one. I was going to be able to attend your live broadcast at Lake Phalen, eat some Church’s Fried Chicken, and listen to The Clams, a great rock and roll group. Then they canceled Charles and canceled the Friday I had off. I’m still pissed off. But glad to hear that The Diner is back.
BTW, does the cig machine have Tareyton, the cigarette that gives you a black eye?
Ten years ago, I was in a small St Paul grocery store and The Rolling Stones, “Some Girls” , plays. I’m standing in the cereal aisle, waiting to hear if its the edited version. I wait, and wait, then the original version played. I smilled, turned my head, and saw an Black couple standing in the aisle waiting to hear that verse too. We looked at each other and chuckled and went on our way.
Glad to have The Diner back. Maybe have Tommy Miscke on.
