True cigarettes with the plastic insert?  Sounds like Doral to me.

Work in progress – we’ll hone and refine and settle into a familiar groove as the year goes on. All I know is that I am glad to be doing it again. Why did I stop? Because I was tired. I’m not tired anymore.

Is there any need for anything after “Who’s Minding The Mint?”

Dug it like an early grave. Great fun!

We don’t have counts and countesses in the news, true. And what became of gentlemen jewel thieves?

Love those old cigarette machines. My Grandfather’s restaurant had them (they were supplied by the Pittsburgh mafia)

I am so happy to have this back. Used to be in my regular rotation. James, I love the ramble. It is refreshing. It is like stepping into the diner from a cold day to eat something warming, where the waitress calls me “Hon” and asks if I want “The usual”.

Not a coffee drinker, but they always have soda on tap into a plastic glass with crushed ice.

I am under the weather today too, so this is perfect for the cold, overcast day. (By cold I mean under 50, because I live in the deep south, and that is just freezing!)

Was excited to hear about this on the Flagship,  and then see it in my feed today.

Yet another item making my membership worth it!

When I was a kid, I would always push the “matches” button on those machines, and usually got some.  Because someone had paid for cigarettes but didn’t get the matches.

Yes, but, one of the problems with that episode was that matter and antimatter “cancel each other out – violently” even if they’re not “identical particles.”  So either (or both) Lazari should have exploded the moment they switched universe.  Which means, of course, no episode.

I would have thought the Somalia-esque appearance of the new flag would have raised a few hackles, unless maybe the resemblance was unnoticed.

Glad to see this podcast is back. Not sure the RSS feed is working though. In PodBean it pulls up the Ramble with no new episodes. I suspect there is something that needs tweaking.

Maybe something to do with the title changing, but the url still says “the ramble?”

The navigation aid talked about in the WW2 newspaper was probably H2S centimeter radar.  It could detect terrain details. Printing it in the newspaper wasn’t giving away secrets.  The Germans captured several examples from downed British bombers shortly after it was deployed.  That  gave them the secret of the cavity magnetron.

The RAF would have been better off using centimeter radar exclusively on aircraft not routinely flying over German-occupied Europe, like Coastal Command patrol craft (it was great at picking up U-boats) and home defense night fighters.  But Bomber Harris wanted it for his bombers and he got most of them.
