Ok. We know you’re bummed. There’s no R> Podcast this week because we decided to take the Fourth of July holiday on the backend this year. But don’t despair. Because James Lileks is The Hardest Working Man in Show Bidness™ he still showed up to do his part for this week’s edition of The Best of Ricochet on the Radio America Network (“Check Local Listings,” as the man says…) and is bringing the Post of the Week to a national terrestrial audience!
Congratulations to @kentforrester for this historic achievement for his post, Me and Sergeant Combs.

Oh yeah? Let’s hear him sing “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag” then.
That other James has been dead for 15 years now.
We are starting off easy. First, a few musical numbers. Then comes the high-speed multi-state car chase.
Kent is a fabulously entertaining writer, but the greatest thing about him is Bob.
Thanks, @Goldwaterwoman. I think.
So you guys take a whole week off for Independence Day. Must be nice.
Thank you for doing a Post of the Week, as a usual complaint about the flagship podcast is a lack of one every episode, so now the tables are flipped, and no complaints about Rob in the comments.
Great pick. @kentforrester weaved a great story together. And I think most of us have been in a situation where we make superficial assumptions about other people that are difficult to reverse unless there’s a striking moment of clarity. Society seems to be overflowing with that, maybe because it’s easier than getting to know someone beyond their assumptions. Make a judgment now, verify (or issue a small print correction) later. Well done!
