Stop The Coupé

Our final podcast of the summer and it’s a full one: first up, a deep dive into the IG report on James Comey. Then, Andrew Pollack, whose daughter Meadow was murdered at Parkland High School joins to discuss his advocacy on her behalf and his forthcoming book, Why Meadow Died: The People and Policies that Created the Parkland Shooter and Endanger America’s Students. It’s a sobering but important segment. Then, we lighten things up considerably with our mate Toby Young (if you’re not listening to London Calling, his podcast with James Delingpole, you are missing out), who attempts to convince us that Boris Johnson is NOT dismantling British democracy. Finally, Peter Robinson attends a swanky Bar-b-Que, and James Lileks sends his daughter to college. Life goes on.

You want this whole Ricochet thing to blow up, scoring Chappelle would be the way to do it if he ever does get cancelled over his content.

Go big or go home, Rob.

The right needs to be open to people who just can’t accept the regressive left’s suffocating small mindedness.

A tall – but necessary- order!

I think the right loves “people who just can’t accept the regressive left’s suffocating small mindedness.”

But I don’t know anything about Chappelle’s politics, and being willing to poke a finger in the eyes of the left’s sacred cows, while lovely, isn’t sufficient to make me want to embrace the guy.

On the other hand, if he’s center-right, I’ll chip in a buck toward the $20 million it’ll take to get him to drop in here. ;)

I don’t think Ricochet will grow to what the founder’s envision if all content has to be screened through a political filter. A commitment to free expression and respectful commentary is the only political stance I demand here, I can pick and choose what I watch from there.

I hear you, and appreciate your point. I think every idea should be open to debate. However, I wouldn’t want the superstar personality* here to be someone who wasn’t center-right. The value of Ricochet, to me, is that it is a civil, center-right place. I enjoy talking to people who are well left of me — look forward to it, in fact. But I want the character here to remain solidly right-of-center.

    * Not that we’re in danger of getting a superstar personality here. ;)

I wouldn’t be shocked if Chapelle were in fact a closet conservative. And I agree with you, Henry, that the right loves people who can see the madness for what it is. But as one of those dastardly Millennials who converted to the right, I’ve found that conservatives aren’t great at speaking the language. If the Democratic Party has been successful anywhere, it has been to keep their skeptical constituents from even considering the Republican Party as a viable alternative, and sadly the right has been slow at making necessary adjustments. I’d say one of those adjustments is to recognize how icky the right seems to so many, and appreciate that a quick transformation is just not in the works. But we can plant seeds!

Will I get in trouble for posting this? If so, sorry. Consulting a code of conduct page just isn’t really my style. ;)

I’ll just put out a warning…. Mr. Chappelle uses very naughty language.

But if they continue to hang in with the regressive/repressive left and refuse to admit that they are, in fact, WRONG; then they should stay where they are and suffer the consequences.

We weren’t as nice to him as we should have been. We really weren’t trying to present our best arguments that are better than the leftist arguments.

Really got a lot out of the interview with Mr. Pollack. I wish him well in trying to get some things changed. It is a shame that families cannot commit someone no matter how bad the situation – which usually only gets worse as the person ages through and out of the teens. The Connecticut shooter’s family would probably have committed him.

I know England doesn’t have a written Constitution officially.  However, it has to written down somewhere unofficially so no one can forget what it says, right?

I’ve always wondered about that too. British politicians confidently refer to their unwritten Constitution. How in the world does anyone know what’s in it?

A lot of people don’t even seem to know what’s in our written Constitution.
