Having two Nigerian immigrants play the roles of white racist Trump supporters is just “non-traditional casting.”
The “only thing that matters here” is that other minority victims will be less likely to be believed? Given all the hoaxes, stoking racial hatred, a little skepticism would be a good thing (but I’m not holding my breath).
This podcast shows once again how whipped so many conservative commentators are (Greg Gutfeld, for one). They leaned over backwards to take this preposterous story seriously.
What I would like to know is which conservative commentators had the guts and brains to brand this as a hoax from the start? I should be listening to them.
That is a total appropriation of culture.
We should definitely be offended that people lie. But it ain’t bad to think about victims of actual bigoted violent. I hope this guy becomes a persona non grata in Hollywood if, (and it is very likely) everything he said was a lie.
If the experience of other racial attack hoaxes is any guide, a large proportion of the black community will continue to believe Smollett’s story, and attribute all the evidence it’s a hoax to a vast conspiracy of the media controlled by the white power structure.
Even if Smollett eventually confesses everything, they will explain that as duress.
As the details fade, he will take his place among the pantheon of those who told “truth” to power and were “punished” for it.
The reality, that anecdotal evidence like this is meant to efface, is that in the vast majority of interracial attacks, blacks are the aggressors, not the victims.
I don’t think blacks are particularly bad at getting everything wrong. Nearly all the podcasts I listen to by artsy-fartsy white people believe that all blacks are all victims all the time. Don’t we have a cultural thing of stupidity and victimhood rather than a racial thing?
Stephen and I both branded it as a hoax from the start.

An encouraging trend, but that compares to 75-85% of whites over the same period who got it right.
I couldn’t find the numbers easily, but my recollection is there was a similar tendency to believe Tawana Brawley and Crystal Magnum (the Duke Lacrosse team rape hoax) and other such cases.
It’s a kind of ethnic loyalty, much as Arabs wanted to believe Mossad was behind the 9/11 attacks.
The documentary about O.J. Simpsons on Netflix is great. I think more Black-Americans will peruse the Netflix special and abandon that ethnic loyalty because O.J. is just a terrible disgusting human being.
