Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
We know that we’ve missed a GLoP or two in the past few months. So in an effort to make up for lost GLoPs, we present this super-sized edition, close to 90 minutes long. We won’t delve into the myriad of topics covered in this show except to say it runs the gamut from a brief history of cable, William Hurt and his many flaws, Skeet Ulrich, The Godfather, Brando, the woman who protested the Ukraine war in a Russian TV studio, who should play Zelensky and more. Just listen. And laugh.

I say it’s YOUR fault. Clearly you didn’t do enough to help convince others to vote for Trump. Blame these perceived “thought leaders?” Why aren’t YOU a thought leader?
It was Trump’s fault.
Hundreds of thousands of known-improper/illegal/fraudulent votes, in multiple states, say otherwise.
Dozens of state investigations, recounts, lost court cases, and a Supreme Court ruling say otherwise to your otherwise. But by all means keep saying it –it’s for sure a winning message with rank and file voters.
Yes, recounting fraudulent ballots over and over wondering why it always comes out the same… the court cases that didn’t actually look at evidence and/or said from the outset that even if the case was proven they wouldn’t do anything… the same Supreme Court that held slavery was legal until it wasn’t… blah blah blah.
This covers a lot of it, but it’s not exhaustive:

Blue you feed the fire as well.
See now, even if that is the case (and I don’t think it was), it is still Trump’s fault. Because he went about challenging it with wacko lawyers and making stupid comments that made so many people just want him gone. They still do.
I’m pretty sure Trump didn’t cause/force the Democrats to cheat.
It is SO exhaustive that I won’t even click on the link. We moved on from crazy Trumpy governors in VA. I want to do that everywhere. No more old Trump or old Biden. They are both not up to the job.
That’s true, gas prices were so much higher with Trump… oh wait, no they weren’t. Well, Russia invaded so many places with Trump… oh wait, no they didn’t… Well, at least for sure Iran got atomic bombs with Trump… no, that didn’t happen either…
I liked Trump’s governance alot though. America got richer and the judiciary got slightly less corrupt.
At least until Election Day.
Biggest problem with “The Godfather”: Tom Hagen’s character having been adopted by a poor immigrant who could barely feed/house his family–Corleone’s going to pick up some little Anglo kid as another mouth to feed (maybe the book explains it)? I’m not buying it. It bugs me whenever I watch (though I’m not a huge fan to begin with)…. I AM more of a fan of Robert Loggia (and remember him in “T.H.E. Cat,” though not the greatest show) and Lou Antonio as an actor (always terrific, but my favorite is the TV movie “Sole Survivor”) and even a director. … This was a great podcast episode. I like Jonah well enough, but, frankly, he doesn’t know much about TV and movies beyond superhero/”Game of Thrones” stuff, so I don’t mind John and Rob dominating such conversations (I’ve sat through more than my share of science fantasy crap on GLoP).
Good enough I suppose, but as I’ve pointed out before, John is wrong about things – including TV and movies – often enough that it’s wise to check everything he says. For just one small example this time, he was wrong about “Don’t mention the war!” being a Monty Python bit.
And then he ruined it all by losing to Joe Biden and not knowing enough about how to mount a successful challenge. And he isn’t getting any younger or wiser. He runs about the country whining about the election instead of telling people what he would have done differently.
If you can determine how he could have won outside the margin of fraud, I’m sure a lot of people would like to know. It may be crucial information for 2024. Arguably Trump managed to win in 2016 because the left thought Hillary had it in the bag, and they didn’t bother revving up the fraud machine because they didn’t think they needed to. In 2020 the fraud machine – “The most inclusive voter fraud organization in history” as Biden said – was oiled up and supercharged, with the help of illegal/unconstitutional voting procedure changes “because Covid” etc.
Listen or don’t listen to podcasts, that’s up to each individual. But don’t not listen to one and then spam the comments with individual beefs on issues that have nothing to do with the podcast posted here.
As a matter of policy we don’t delete comments. But that doesn’t mean we can’t call them out as whiney, finger pointing, off topic comments that are only posted to make the commenter feel good about themselves.
Want to complain about the election two and a half years after the fact (again), or how victimized the former President is, or pontificate about where Jonah practices punditry? Please do! There are a myriad of ways to express yourself on this site: Write a post. Create a private or public group. Produce your own podcast.
Don’t like the hosts of this show? Cool. Don’t listen to it. Podcast listening is optional on Ricochet. Always has been, always will be. But stop carpet bombing the podcast posts (and it’s not just GLoP) with this repetitive, one note, and by this point — extremely boring comments. Is that too much to ask?
Apparently, it is.
Does Ricochet no longer host Bill Kristol’s podcast, then?
I don’t see it in the podcast list any more, so here’s hoping!
If I type a comment in Russian, will it be deleted?
It doesn’t matter. Biden won and Trump lost. That isn’t going to change. There is no point.
We never hosted it, we were paid to distribute it. That contract expired at the end of 2021 and was not renewed.
Audience doesn’t know the difference. It was always a bad look. Glad you didn’t renew it. Or he didn’t renew it. Or whatever. Bill Kristol needs to get embedded in one of these wars he loves so much.
All your points are valid but sometimes I wish you express yourself in a nicer way. Though I wish other people were nicer too.
The point I was making — too gently for some, I see — was that I don’t listen to podcasts because (with the exception of Rob’s occasional, brilliant, and brief Martini Shot) they’re too damned long! I once worked in radio, a medium disciplined by the constraints of a more demanding measured audience, so the casual tempo of podcasts sends me looking for the fast forward which is useless without a list of timecodes.
So without having to endure the discursive rambling typical of the genre (this time on subjects I have well covered) in went a theoretical rundown of what an actually interesting and informed sampling through the stated agenda might look like.
If you’re talking about the films of William Hurt, for instance, you certainly would want to mention Broadcast News, the Jim Brooks classic. A great scene comes when Hurt’s composed, experienced news anchor teaches a skeptical Brooks how to sit on the tail of his blazer to improve is posture on-air. Then it all falls apart with the perfect case of flop sweat on live TV, while Hurt is off with Holly Hunter at the WHCD. (Talk about The Big Chill would also merit a time code flag to this long-ago former Democrat. It’s a movie made back when ex-hippies were coming to terms with their mistakes, before reverting to earnest blind idealism.)
As for Jonah, he was amusing back in the day c0-headlining cruise show comedy night with Rob or Lileks and the great Mary Steyn. Since Jonah started looking down on President Trump, from some self-imagined perch on high, poof went the funny. I await the day when he comes to the realization that Trump’s connection with Republican voters is more important than Jonah’s own standing in the small and insignficant inside-the-beltway-and-on-their-way-out community that is the anti-Trumpers.
Maybe we can come together and help Jonah go far in Smug’s tournament.
Yeah, John is wrong a lot, but he’s old (not as old as I, though), so he makes references movies and TV that I know (I was pretty surprised he didn’t remember “T.H.E. Cat,” though). But, heck, he’s usually speaking off the cuff, so he’s going to get a lot wrong, naturally.
He should say things like “I think it was maybe X, but you should look it up to make sure” a lot more. Rather than “it was X” as though that’s received wisdom.
He is doing fine on his own, but I did help.
Agreed.
