This week on GLoP Culture, sure, we cover the shutdown, but also life as a high profile dissenter, the realism of Gravity, some myth-busting about being a conservative in Hollywood, and some unsolicited advice for J.J. Abrams on the next installment of Star Wars.
Note: We had some audio difficulties towards the end of the show. Beware of the chop.
Solid as a rock, EJHill.

I think I know why JPod wants to see “Gamesters of Triskelion” in 3-D. There’s a certain drill thrall who was assigned to train Capt. Kirk, uh, need I say more?
Well, I’ve earned the right to question the people who question my right to make fun of pampered pundits for whining about people questioning their conservative bona fides.
You certainly have the right to criticize their opinion on any topic. I think both Jonah and John were reacting to the statements of some that they were not “true” conservatives because they did not support the Defund Obamacare tactic in the CR discussion. I have read both of them for years and cannot agree with the criticism that they are not “true” conservatives. They also received a lot of personal invective from supporters of the tactic. You can disagree with them and still be civil. Some of the tactic’s supporters weren’t.
JPod, Astonishing, and Ted Cruz walk into a bar …
I’m half an hour in and respectfully suggest this podcast be renamed “GLoP Politics and Culture.”
Also, I wonder if it’d be best to recast it with some rock-ribbed conservative hosts and not this trio of Rockefeller RINOs.
(First paragraph a serious suggestion, just to be clear. Great podcast.)
When it comes to failed sitcom pilots Podhoretz may have an ironclad memory but he’s totally off the mark on the generic ballot issue.
When asked who they intended who to vote for the GOP has never had an advantage even in the years that they actually won. It is not a leading indicator.
@JeffP Fair point. More culture, less politics from now on.
gonna pass on this one, as it will be a bunch of whining “I told you so’s” about how the GOP should have caved
@Butters That phrase or sentiment is not part of this podcast. Give it a chance. For the kids.
Clearly the RINO tag struck a nerve because we’re running through our second straight podcast full of whining about it.
Look we’re all on the same side we’re just having a little spat right now. Eventually we’ll all kiss and make up over drinks in midtown Tuesday
Rob, you’re right. The California DMV web site is great, very easy to use.
They talk a bit about “Jimmy” Woods. Wrong Woods.
Rob’s been laughing about his “rino-ness” on podcasts for years, so it’s not really whining. And Jonah and John are not RINOs, so I understand that they got their collars up over people calling them that.
I vote for the opposite! I like hearing these three’s opinions on current politics, when I agree and when I don’t.
Politics is the main reason why I listen to the Ricochet podcasts.
WTF complaining about Obama’s computer roll out and you put out this irritating broken down podcast. Still look forward to your next one though.
James Woods got a 1600 on his SAT – why don’t you do a show on other smart celebrities?
John P, I love you dearly, but I just want to point out that many of the decaffeinated brands are just as tasty…

Agreed. I really was serious in suggesting the name change and think a 50/50 mix of politics and culture (which is about what this podcast delivered) is ideal for this trio.
Yeah but that ruins the play on “pop culture.”
Did anyone else have audio problems around minute 56 where he’s telling the Dwight Schulz story?
Yeah, this is getting silly when you consider that the “RINO” epithet seems to have been hurled at these guys on Twitter of all things. Who takes Twitter insults to heart? The administration calls us all worse names than that every other day.
I don’t mind them touching on politics but this “poor me” stuff is tedious.
Yeah I lurk there a lot but rarely post.
Yep, audio went dead for a minute or two there.

Okay, then: “GLoP Culture and Politics.” Problem … solved!
Thanks for returning humor to GLoP!
Hilariousactual dialogue at 21:50:
Whoever writes this stuff deserves a raise.
We had some audio issues at a couple of points late in the show, that’s why it’s a bit choppy there.
Entertaining as always, Yeti. Thx.
Don’t go changing, Glop. You too, Law Talk and Need to Know.
Someone please explain why the government hitting it’s debt ceiling is bad? What happens?
Ask thyself, Whence the disconnect between gallant “warriors fighting in the arena” and their erstwhile “fans on the sidelines”? ·11 hours ago
Edited 10 hours ago
If we are at the point now where blogging and “tweeting” qualifies someone as a “warrior”, then the wussification of America is officially complete.
What is the missing portion of the Dwight Schultz story?
Lost to the ages, unfortunately.
