Hawk Newsome says he often makes it a point to meet people where he grew up. So on a cold day not long ago, I made my way to Papa Juan’s Cigar Room in the South Bronx to see the man who led Black Lives Matter of Greater New York.

“I appreciate you having the courage to come to the South Bronx,” he tells me as we sit down to chat. “I make it a point to bring people to the Bronx. So, they could one, see the folks that I’m a part of, see what we represent. Two, just to see how scared they get.”

It really wasn’t scary, but it certainly was outside of my comfort zone.

Describing himself as a devout Christian and family man, Newsome shared stories with me about his youth and why he was motivated to become a civil rights activist and organize Black Lives Matter of Greater New York. Then, in September 2017, he made headlines when he took the stage at a pro-Trump rally in Washington, D.C.—and won over the crowd.

Today, he’s focused on studying for the bar exam and starting a new organization with the goal of finding common ground.

Our interview runs about 40 minutes. An abridged and lightly edited transcript is available on DailySignal.com.

Conservatives won’t agree with Newsome on many issues, but I hope you’ll appreciate the opportunity to hear a different perspective.

I listened to half of it and then went to the transcript at:

Hank Newsome seems to be a great guy, but I wonder why Rob Bluey gave him nothing but softball questions.  Of maybe I don’t wonder …

In truth, aside from the great Heather MacDonald, virtually no conservatives are ready to challenge Black Lives Matter activists with the statistic that only 4% of homicides of blacks are by police (nearly all justifiable), leaving a mere, insignificant 96% of homicides to be accounted for, almost entirely by other blacks.

Bluey also didn’t point out that if Newsome condemns Donald Trump for adultery, then he has to condemn Martin Luther King, Jr. ten times over.

This sounded to me like The Courageous Conversation. So long as you didn’t challenge his assumptions he remained civil. Many of his assumptions had merit, quite a few didn’t.  I am unsurprised that he hasn’t passed the bar. Affirmative Action will get you into law school, but it won’t get you through the bar.

So, are conservatives really cool with restoring the right to vote to criminals? Well hell, lets just go all the way and be cool with giving non-citizens the right to vote.

Conservatives have been gloating about the narrow victories in Florida.

It is, indeed, great that the insane Florida Supreme Court is finally being taken away from the Democrats, after wreaking havoc for decades.

But nobody seems to be paying attention to the fact that the voters also passed a law to enfranchise convicted criminals who have, in that absurd*, poetical phrase, “paid their debt to society”.

Florida Republicans should enjoy their power now, because the Democrats will be getting at least 85% of those new voters, and Republican power is unlikely to outlive the next election.

*As if they restored to life and health the people they killed or crippled; unraped the raped, etc.
