In the first COMMENTARY podcast of the week, Abe Greenwald and I survey the wreckage of Theresa May and point out that her disastrous showing represents the fourth major election in a year in which publics have rejected the idea that political professionalism is something to be sought in a leader. Why? They’ve forgotten, or have never learned, what the world was like until the fall of the Berlin Wall. Give a listen.

Or maybe they’ve learned that the “professionals” have largely proved themselves to be incompetent.

The West is in free fall civilizationally.

The USA is ~$20 Trillion in debt, our educational system is in shambles, and the military is largely run down and without necessary supplies, yet we keep hearing it is the rubes and yeoman citizens who are too dumb to vote.

The first moment of self-reflection by our “betters” will be the first.

The rubes and yeoman have established beyond any doubt that they are too dumb to vote. The last 3 presidential elections have done nothing to address the serious problems you outlined.

Around time stamp 33:45 John asserts, “…with the exception of the outbreak in Bosnia, Europe has been a pacific place for 75 years for the first time in world history [or since 800].”  I take his point but would quibble over his omission of the century between the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 and the outbreak of World War I in 1914.  Yes, there were colonial wars outside of Europe and a war on the fringe of Europe (The Crimean War) but not a ruinous war in the heart of the continent such as took place with regularity through most of the last millennium.
