The would-be pipe bombs sent to prominent Democrats are the subject of this week’s podcast, which examines the cause of such monstrous behavior, efforts to assign blame to Donald Trump alone rather than to the atmosphere in which a leftist shot up the GOP Congressional baseball team, and what all this portends about the midterm elections. Give a listen.

This is ridiculous.  Have they forgotten the types of things the Left has been saying for years?  Comparing W to Hitler, among other things, to name just one?  This didn’t start with Trump.  Don’t waste your time on this podcast.

The Democrats and their media are why we have Trump. But Trump sure doesn’t help himself sometimes with the way he responds.

Were the bombs sent as a hoax or were they sent intending to be dangerous but the sender was merely incompetent?

If the former, you can’t rule out anyone on either side of the political spectrum. It takes considerably less malice to deliberately send fake bombs to sow discord than to attempt to send real ones.

I agree with the first two comments – Trump may be making a bad situation worse, and he may deserve some blame, but Trump is a consequence of the toxic political climate that’s been brewing for decades, instigated by the left.

    Winked & Nodded? how petty!

The democrats organized and bused protesters to Trump events. Even forcing the cancellation of an event in Chicago. The people who have deviated the most from normal American political discourse are democrats. Look up Bob Creamer of Illinois.

You think 2020 republicans arent going to think about organizing counter-rallies in front of every Hillary campaign stop? Just so they can compare crowd sizes?

After every act of ‘political’ violence they look at republican rhetoric and demand they dial it back, they never look at themselves or hollywood.

It feels more like the Commentary crew is upset people are out there cheering on the President vs. any actual violence.  The violence (Charlottesville, the occasional Proud Boys fracas) are isolated whereas Left wing violence/misbehavior is consistent.

I’m not sure whether the implication is “if people wouldn’t cheer the President, the Lef twouldn’t be like this” but they’re wrong

If we had a “normal” Republican as President, we would be going for a filibuster proof Senate, and would be holding the House and Governorships.

If we had a “Normal” Republican candidate in 2016. Hillary would’ve been president. Also do you really think democrats would be reacting any differently if another candidate pulled off a surprise upset victory against them? No.

Who projects strength?  It’s what the electorate gravitates towards

Normal Generic Republican is probably making “Gang of 8” crap sandwich deals on immigration, dumps Kavanaugh and probably with one of the two picks looks for a moderate “healing” candidate for SCOTUS

You’re assuming Normal Generic Republican gets the media to show how corrupt they are instead of assuming “people will see through the truth” and he’ll get credit for quiet policy wins.

Normal Generic Republican is probably still racist fascist Hitler moving us towards authoritarianism, but he’s a wimp against the media hate.

I don’t think you’re gaining seats in the Senate with that, and you’re probably getting a huge majority in the House.

…and if you think Normal Generic Republican is not getting undermined by partisans in the bureaucracy (as Dubya was as well) for daring to beat Hillary, I think you’ve misjudged that Trump’s treatment is somehow unique because he’s Trump.

I get the notion that a “normal” Republican would have fared better, but I think that’s wishful thinking.  The Left didn’t go nuts because of Trump, they doubled down on the psychotic when he wouldn’t take the abuse with a stiff upper lip, and by doing so, got people rallied against them.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. Trump was the only candidate who could possibly have been less popular than Hillary, and the only one who could have lost the popular vote to her.

While true, if their opponent were a normal candidate we wouldn’t be in the situation where both political parties look like lunatics. You’d have one sane party and one insane party, and the Republicans would clean up.

Its always difficult to argue a counter-factual. If things where different, they wouldnt be the same, and its impossible to know all the unexpected ramifications of those changes. I think that is the boat you’re in now. There is one sane party. Its the democrats who are out howling at the moon, blocking traffic and breaking windows.
