New positive COVID tests are at or approaching historic lows across the United States. Deaths and hospitalizations are reaching rates associated with a typical flu season. The pandemic is on the eve of its conclusion. The only question is when elected officials will acknowledge it. Also, the Democratic Party’s advocates in the press have discovered the real problem with anti-Semitism: it detracts from the progressive project.

    Mr Podhoretz:

I was astonished and appalled by your remarks about Marjorie Taylor Greene. I am well aware that she has espoused odd positions in the past and I am aware of the reputation she has garnered, but your description of her as “human offal” is simply too much. When this podcast reached that point and I heard your unhinged invective, I simply had to stop and could listen no further.

It is all the more unwarranted considering your position as editor of Commentary, a magazine that encourages reasoned thought based on fact and logic. Your comments were completely contrary to those principles. Moreover, the Ricochet platform loudly proclaims the same principles. Yet you indulged in the worst kind of slander.

I do not need to defend or endorse Ms. Greene. I have watched the Tucker Carlson interview (and you are no more kind to him than to her) with her and saw a person with whom I might disagree but who presented herself and her views in a cogent and sensible way. I challenge you to view the interview, which is available on YouTube. If you do, you may still find no point of agreement with her but you will certainly find nothing by which you can defend your abysmal comments.

You may not think you owe her an apology, but you certainly owe your listeners some consideration.
