On this week’s COMMENTARY MAGAZINE podcast, we dig into the results of New York’s primary election. The Democratic presidential nomination contest is essentially over, but don’t tell that to the increasingly deluded Bernie Sanders. What does Donald Trump’s staggering victory and Ted Cruz’s humiliating third-place finish say about their pathways to the nomination, and how will the convention delegates respond to the Texas senator’s claim to be a winner in November if he keeps losing? Finally, is it the American Dream to live beyond one’s means? And we conclude with a Passover-related joke!

    • Another fine effort by John and Noah. Kinda wish there had been a more encouraging report but “facts are stubborn things”. Sorry if I missed this, but are you both denizens of NYC? Just curious. May you both have a blessed Passover.

“…all these kids screaming and yelling his [Bernie Sanders] name and pretending he is the Lenin/Lennon? of a new American future.”

I laughed out loud – great double entendre, Mr. Podhoretz!

    Re: The Gabler part

The reason so many are running out of money is because since Woodrow Wilson we have been practicing statist inflationism. It sort of worked for 100 years for geopolitical reasons, but now due to globalized labor markets and robots it just generates excess debt, asset bubbles, and  inflation (that isn’t really captured by the CPI anymore).

This is why people vote for more government to fix it i.e. Trump, Sanders, RINOS and the Democrat party. People don’t really have that much “agency” anymore.

I don’t like or endorse Ron Paul, but the fact is we are going to get a Ron Paul world the hard way in a few years. It is going to be brutal.

This is a great article. Look at #2 in particular https://mises.org/blog/four-reasons-why-government-spending-even-worse-taxes

I love all of the Ricochet podcasts, but they REALLY need a podcast that deals with this stuff head-on. Get rid of the Fed dual mandate, decentralize the banking system, cooperate with deflationary technology and globalized labor with good government that allows everyone to live better through purchasing power. I guarantee this is all going to happen the hard way anyway.
