By all accounts, Russia’s war in Ukraine is going badly for Moscow. Vladimir Putin is now confronted with a geopolitical environment that is wholly arrayed against Western interests. That’s good for civilization, but Putin may feel he has no choice but to engage in a standoff with the West in response.

The west is currently united.  I wonder how long that will last.

By “all accounts” he must mean by all the Ukrainian Twitter accounts, but keep on living in your Cold War Neocon dream world.  At least you don’t have to wear those masks that never did any good to begin with even though you were all for them before you were against them.

The only reason the “West” is united is because the Ukrainians fought like hell over the weekend. If Kiev fell Friday none of these sanctions/military action Noah is so hot about happens. It won’t last…by Fall of 2022 all will be back to January 2022. We will be making the same geo-political mistake of alienating Russia we have been doing since 1993. Putin is not Stalin or Hitler or Lenin or Trotsky or Khrushchev all who were driven by ideology. Putin for sure  is an autocrat…a crook…an oppressor et al but he is has arrived here by some legitimate geo-political concerns…not by ideology etc.  He also is under much more political pressure both in the civil society sphere and by rivals in the Kremlin than any other Russian leader since Czar Nicholas II….he has some insulation but not as much as western talking heads thinks he has.

Putin has responded terribly here no doubt and there has to be some sort of western response as China is watching but to say Putin is Stalin 2.0 or Hitler 2.0 is just not correct and the west’s policies are a part of why we are here today.

By the way…Noah’s geo-political shift I see did not involve China….will China covertly bail out Putin? Are they seeing his army stall and wonder what might await them in Taiwan? Are they learning from Putin’s mistakes? China is a major player in this and is the real antagonist…unfortunately the Clinton’s, Bush’s and Obama’s decided Russia was and here we are….

When did it become OK to just drop the F-bomb? And why bother even having the other members of the panel there – this is yet another Podhoretz monologue.
