Commentary contributor and former deputy secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Tevi Troy, joins the podcast today for a wide-ranging conversation on his latest for the magazine, “The CDC’s Inadequate ‘Reform Plan.’” Did Joe Biden step in it when he declared the pandemic “over,” and can the CDC reform itself to avoid the failures it stumbled at the onset of the Covid outbreak?

I think the biggest problem that CDC had was that it lost credibility.  Dr. Fauci went back and forth on whether to wear masks, and not for medical reasons.  He lied because wanted to regulate supply.  Later he said protests/riots were OK if he liked the cause.  Several times I’ve read of the CDC trying to get involved in second amendment regulation.  The CDC should just give the medical facts and stay out of controversial political questions.  Once it strays out of its core competency people will stop believing the CDC when it gives advice on its actual core competency.

I lost all respect for Fauci and the CDC when they said, go ahead and protest. At this point nothing short of a complete change of personnel that show they are willing to stay out of politics and stick to public health, would restore my faith.
