On this podcast, Noah Rothman, Abe Greenwald, and John Podhoretz discuss the tumultuous three days since (remember this?) Neil Gorsuch was nominated to be an associate justice of the Supreme Court. We’re fighting with Australia, we’re putting Iran on notice, Russia is poisoning critics and fooling around in Ukraine, and people are throwing firebombs at a flamethrower in Berkeley. Give a listen. Really.

Great discussion. The ability to compromise, and to find common interests to advance a national agenda is vital to the government.

On the one hand, if these senators (up for re-election in Trump states) compromise, in order to win a general election – end up being primaried out of office and replaced with a wing-bat Never Trumper. They’ll have a collection of weak candidates, that’ll loose the general elections.

On the other hand if these senators attempt to obstruct the Trump agenda, they’ll win the primary, but likely loose the general election. (depending on the success of the Trump administration – which is a huge gamble for them)

Looks like a good reason to be optimistic about the mid term elections.

This old Conservative takes serious issue with your, i.e., Abe’s/John’s/Noah’s, apparent position that there is no justification, and indeed harm in, for what you term as the confrontational and not infrequently rude behavior of the now President Trump.  Reflect back, if only a few months, and please enumerate for us the number of times people like Pelosi, Reid, Durbin, Leahy, Murray, Schumer or The One had something polite to say about any Republican, or for that matter anything that was even remotely factual.  Lying and deceitful behavior and utterances characterize these people.  Some of us maintain this: Trump has a very limited time, probably less than a full year, to strip down a corrupted federal government, and the equally corrupted atmosphere of Washington.  Some of us want zero magnanimity dealing with Leftists.  Let me say that again:  zero.  We want their exposure and utter destruction on the battlefield of ideas and words, taking it to the media who is 90%+ an active part of the Leftist agenda.  We want absolutely no prisoners taken of those who for eight long years worked diligently to destroy liberal (small “l”) constitutional government in the form of lawlessness and an administrative state from which we are still reeling.  Finally, it gives many of us zero concern that there are rioters on campuses like Berkeley.  With each passing day, more and more Americans see the true colors of the Left within the Democrat Party.  It is an ugly scene, but one of their own intolerant making.  It needs to burn out, witnessed by all of us.
