What a Difference a Day Makes…

…twenty-four little hours…

This song was running through my mind this evening as Ray and I had dinner at a very nice seafood restaurant in the town of Anacortes, Washington, after a trip to Deception Pass State Park.  Today is June 29, and tomorrow is June 30, the day that Dictator Jay Inslee has deemed “reopening day”.  Here are my slightly different lyrics for the first line:

What a difference a day makes, twenty-four little hours.

There are more smiling faces, where there used to be masks.

We were talking with the nice lady at the reception desk, noting that in less than six hours all the “mask” signs, plexiglass partitions, and regulations regarding “social distancing” would be swept away.  Absolutely nothing except some time passing distinguishes Wednesday from Tuesday this week, showing how totally arbitrary those stupid regulations were in the first place.

Now, more than one news story on KOMO today mentions that you are not allowed to burn your masks quite yet, since they will still be required on public transportation and in all healthcare settings.

Here’s one news story’s angle: Washington to reopen at midnight, after Covid-19 forced state shut down over a year ago.  COVID didn’t force the state to shut down, Inslee did!

Here’s another: Some confused, as King County health officials drop mask mandate. Are the public in other states as stupid as they are in Washington? These people somehow never grew into sentient adults, and need to be guided by state officials.

Gretchen decided to close down gardening stores because COVID. Gretchen decided to close down gardening aisles in stores that were otherwise open because they sold groceries because COVID. Gretchen decided to ban hydroxychloroquin for COVID patients because Trump.

This is one of my favorite songs. I often sing it when there’s a big weather change, etc. Thanks RushBabe49.

Well, in agreement with @eugenekriegsmann, it seems we are not 100% open yet.

Absolute power, once gained, is rarely yielded.  The Left never yields absolute power, and they are the ones who seek it most.

There will be fewer masking requirements though masking rules will remain in place at health care settings correctional facilities, homeless shelters and schools. Masks will continue to be required for unvaccinated employees who return to work indoors. Businesses can continue to choose to require masks for their customers, regardless of vaccination status.

Although the state is fully reopening after enduring 16 months of restrictions, some of the safety mandates, like face masks, will remain.

That second statement is self-contradictory.  The state CANNOT be “fully opened” as long as mask Mandates remain.  And those businesses who continue to mandate masks for any customer will not be getting my business.

Pierce County is still posting new cases of (alleged) covid cases. They still don’t confirm that these are active cases as opposed to people simply testing positive. The numbers are a mere fraction of the previously reported numbers, less than 40 cases per day. Part of my ride yesterday was along the Foothills trail between Puyallup and South Prairie. There weren’t many on the trail but no one I saw was wearing a mask, including a couple of fairly large groups of riders who would in the past have at least a couple of masked riders. My dentist still has to maintain the silly protocol of waiting in the parking lot until told I can enter and having to wear a mask when entering the office. My barber is the same. She also goes through the elaborate and completely useless procedure of wiping down the chair with anti bacterial after I get up, as though I could spread covid through my a$$. The whole thing is absurd, but neither my dentist nor my barber has any choice. Their licenses to practice would be in jeopardy if they fail to maintain the idiocy.

According to this article, the governor changed his mind and unvaccinated still have to wear masks. It’s the honor system, so there may be little practical difference.

I was recently at a facility for a meeting where everyone had their temperature taken and a rapid covid test. None of us had a fever and we all tested negative for the dread disease. But we all still had to where masks. Because, SCIENCE!

In my gym in King County, they don’t rely on the honor system. They will present you with a silicone wristband which is to be worn at all times once you have shown proof of “vaccination.” This permits you to go everywhere in the club without face masks. I, on the other hand, not being “vaccinated,” have to keep my mask on, even while participating in informal competition. This hasn’t prevented me from winning any squash games. I do wear a heart monitor. But in Oregon, the reopening there does away with masking and social distancing entirely. WA and OR reopenings are not equivalent.

Private businesses and offices may still choose to require customers and visitors to wear masks, physically distance, or continue other precautions. For example, a restaurant or store can still require masks for all customers and visitors if it so chooses.

For Washington workplaces and employers, L&I issued updated information on June 30; however, the workplace and employer requirements largely remain unchanged from last month’s revisions. …

    Oregon Update

In Oregon, effective June 30, Gov. Brown has rescinded the emergency orders requiring masking and physical distancing requirements as well as capacity limits in most public settings. The emergency order rescissions apply to vaccinated as well as unvaccinated persons.

Additionally, effective June 30, Oregon’s Occupational Safety and Health Division (OR-OSHA) revised its rules (OAR 437-001-0744) to drop the masking and physical distancing requirements at workplaces except for healthcare and other exceptional risk settings. This means employers can choose to allow employees to go without masks and physical distancing as of today. However, employees may still choose to wear masks or respirators, and employers must allow employees to do so. OR-OSHA also dropped the special requirements for many particular worksites, including bars and restaurants, retail stores, construction, gyms, and sports events, meaning these locations and events have no special requirements.

Proof that Dictator Inslee’s Health Nazis think for themselves and do not blindly follow Gruesome or Brownie.
