Report Issues/ 2.0 Feedback
As suggested by She and anonymous, let’s use this thread to report your bugs, ideas, and feedback on 2.0. We’re reading it and our grateful for your suggestions and your patience.
3/23/ Update: We are aware that several new problems have cropped over the weekend, and existing problems with the podcast feeds, formatting, search, messaging, and alerts have not been addressed or have broken again. We also are aware that many of you have not seen your old posts appear on the new site yet. We are looking into all of this and will have a status update on these issues posted by Monday PM PT.
We will get all of this fixed. That’s a promise.

I may be the only Ricocheteer running the Blackberry 10 platform, so give this plea all the deference it deserves:
There is a (seemingly random) call or formatting command collision between R2.0 and BB10’s WebKit (v10.2.1.68) browser that forces the device’s display to drop down to the comment-entry box and pop up the on-screen keyboard. This happens on every page reload, both refresh and new pages. This is distracting and, while it’s possible to drag the screen up to the beginning of the post, as any moment the device will interpret the finger gesture as an excuse to return directly to the comment box.
The only thing about this behavior that I can offer as a clue is that while a page is loading and the blue progress bar is still being displayed, things are fine. It’s only once a page has finished loading completely that the comment box appears.
Does anyone, running -any- other touch-enabled platform, see anything like this? If not then I’ll bring it to the attention of the BB dev’s but since things around here are still (how to say it nicely?) in flux, I think I’ll hold off a while longer.
BTW, on my W7 desktop, running Firefox v27.0.1, R2.0 is quite okay!
Keep up the great work Ricochet Boffins! I’m eager to up my membership to Gold, but I’m waiting till the “Change Membership” recognizes my existing profile and password instead of asking for me to input it anew. I can wait.
Same here, but I can see the podcasts but can’t download them
&blockquote>Blue Yeti: What issues are you experiencing?
Well, the “Alert” button is dead although I do see the alert count in the red bubble. “Followed Conversations”, “Active Conversations”, “Followed” and “Following ” are all dead.
For me, the editor is more than a little buggy. I’m unable to edit comments without it locking up. On occasion, it simply locks up for no apparent reason. So commenting is virtually impossible.
Keep in mind, I’m on an iPad 1.0 running version 5.1.1. I understand there will be limitations.
Thanks for looking into these items. By the way, great work on getting 2.0 up and running. Can’t be easy.
The comment editor needs to be put in a bag and tossed in the river.
On OS X Firefox quotes want to take over the rest of the comment and extensive cut and paste heuristics are required to quote format just a specific region.
I had Rushbabe’s problem with IE 10 on win 7. Upgrading to IE 11 fixed it
Couple of quick things:
1. This feedback post has fallen off the front page. You may already be thinking this way, but we still need a feedback post on the front page – even if you just start a new one.
2. Carousel image distortion. Already been reported that the images do not maintain aspect ratio – however, they look fine in Firefox. It is in IE that they are stretched, making for quite a few long faces.
3. Seeing alerts indicating that some mysterious “-” has “logged in”. I presume it is “me” who logged in, based on the timestamp, and the fact that I got two when I logged in with separate browsers simultaneously. Not sure the purpose, and definitely not sure I’d advocate that level of transparency. I love my fellow Ricochet members, but I don’t think they need to know that “I’m online” either. Hoping this is just a debug thing.
Don’t know if this is happening for others, but “My Feed” went down for me yesterday [3/23/14] and is still down today at 6:27 PM EDT. Not a biggie, but noticed it. Thank you, Yeti, et al.!
You didn’t hear this from me, but my advice would to not get too fond of the carousel. It won’t be around much longer.
Thank you, CTLaw, about how to fix the problem with IE8. That is on my work computer, and I have to ask IT if it’s OK for me to get the latest version. I really don’t think I can use the excuse that I want to access Ricochet! I’m doing fine at home with Safari and Firefox. Everything seems to work today.
Good. Never liked it.
Good. The more extraneous stuff you remove, the better. I am really trying to like 2.0. But it’s so busy, and so all-0ver-the-place, that it’s hard for me to warm up to it.
What I have liked about Ricochet is that I could go to the page and quickly ‘check-in’ on what all the ‘folks’ were saying/thinking. I could get in and get out very quickly. And if I wanted to engage in the conversation, I could. Quickly.
Now, I have to browse up/down, left/right, back/forth, just to find the posts.. The stuff that should be prominent, isn’t. The stuff I couldn’t care less about, is.
Trust me, I’ll find Dave Carter’s post without another picture and a link which just takes up space and is something else to get past.
You may be catering to a different audience, or expecting, or encouraging, a different type of customer in this release, but you’re losing me.
Anyone else reported this? I’m getting alerts that some unidentified member has logged in.
I was getting those earlier today.
Its like the movie Heat: we’re all Vincent Hanna on the trail of Neil McCauley.
Case in point:
The NSA hasn’t been able to enter completely unnoticed, but has been able to cloak its identity.
“No Such Agency.” ;-)
We are still losing video embedding when we edit our Original Posts.
I made a minor change to this post, and the two embedded videos disappeared again (some kind editor had gotten them to show for me, and now that kind editors work has been undone).
Ouch! So glad I took the time first to view them. Yes, the instructions for posting youtube video don’t seem to be working as well as they were in 1.0.
We’ll fix your post. Sorry about that.
How to I copy a link to an article when trying to write a post? I tried to attach a link from the NYT (I know, I know) but it wouldnt let me
Good catch. Will report this. Shouldn’t be too difficult to remove those.
I’m having phenomenal embedding problems with my latest post (a different post from the one I described above).
I thought I was following instructions for proper embedding of YouTube vids in an OP:
Go to the YouTube “share” function, copy the embedding code (the stuff with the <iframe..//www.youtube.com/embed/…></iframe> format), and paste directly into the OP.
But I’m either getting gibberish or nothing. What am I doing wrong?!
To copy a link, first copy the link in the address bar in your browser. The, highlight the text you want to be clickable, then select the button with the chain icon in the editor. Paste in the link, then click on the insert button.
And I just edited the post to fix a typo, and now even the gibberish is gone.
The videos did briefly appear in the editing box as I was editing, though.
A bit of a nit. Back in 1.0, the link function defaulted the target to “open link in new window”. Now the default is “open link in same window,” although you can change it to “new.” I liked the new window default, since it didn’t mess up whatever you might be doing on the current page, especially to see if you made the link correctly in “Preview”. I noticed you skipped the target part in the instructions above. Don’t know if the default can be changed. Thanks.
I can no longer edit comments.
When I click “edit” on a comment, the edit box comes up and I can type in it, but when I try posting the edit, I get a blank page with the URL http://ricochet.com/wp-comments-post.php, and the original comment remains unchanged.
My bio is still truncated, and the alerts are often 1-3 years old.
1-3 years old? Mine are consistently between 7 and 8 hours old.
I think we’ve gotten some weird alerts due to the migration. When a post makes its way over, it sends an alert out (backdated several hours, in my case) to everyone following the author, no matter how old the original post was.
