Grifters Got to Grift, but the Lincoln Project Makes Me Sick

Everyone here knows who the Lincoln grifters are. Heck, I’m 5,000 miles away in Ireland and I know who they are. As a secondary teacher and a Catholic, I’ve been trained and learned by experience how to catch lying pupils (they cannot help it) and to observe people who engage in systematic coverup and lies (sadly, the hierarchy of my church). Should I ever pack in teaching, I should look to the Irish cops for another vocation.

For now, I’ll stick with this: Nobody with a brain believes they knew nothing about predatory sleazeball John Weaver. The less said about him the better in this brief rant. Like rats from a stinking sorry sinking ship we now are meant to believe his buddies or acquaintances knew nothing about his creepy ways. A host of experienced at losing GOP hacks Rick Wilson, George Conway, Steve Schmidt, and a whole gallery of advisors at the Lincoln Project knew nothing absolutely nothing about it.

Right…

Ryan Girdusky (who broke this story and fair play to him), Glenn Greenwald, Laura Ingraham, and Mike Cernovich are all lying when they say otherwise. As are New York Magazine and The Associated Press and the New York Times when they write they knew all about him. That it was an open secret. That people gossiped about it. That people in Lincoln Project cannot talk about it due to NDAs on it. That nothing was allowed to come out about him as — shock, horror — the grift had to continue for them. A grift that cost white liberals $50 million plus.

Right…

They obviously think you are as easy a mark as some of their donors if you believe any of that. But the reason I really got enraged at these grifters tonight to write about them was this. In a thread on his Twitter feed tonight (which am not linking to) Steve Schmidt talks and lies about his relationship with Weaver. He disowns any real knowledge of the man. He also makes excuses for his appalling conduct over the last year. But what really grates me, was when he brought an entire story of him being abused as a teenage boy by a male medic (there it is again), how it destroyed his Catholic faith, and why he loathes what John Weaver did to other men.

I’m sorry, that enraged me. I have no idea whether his abuse story is true. But if it is (I’ll let you decide on it) and it is true, it feels that Schmidt is using this information not to express horror with what occurred but as a simple means to offer deflection from his relationship with Weaver. He was a victim of abuse, so he’d never stand by and watch it happen to another person.

Right…

I’ll leave the final paragraph to Ryan Girdusky who deserves an award for his reporting. His tweet on Schmidt’s statement is copied below:

“NAT” has to cough up policies and do something about the political and economic structural issues that brought about MAGA and are starkly clear now.

The actual issue is, what are the policies going forward?

When you define your entire political view based on opposition to President Trump, the great yawning emptiness that you must face going forward into a Trump-less future is the absolute lack of policy prescriptions that’s been your life for the last five years.

For five years all objection to Trump has been based in personality. And suddenly there’s a new President, and these guys don’t even know what time it is. No wonder they keep looking to 2003 for ideas.
