The Mob is Coming For You, Don’t Be Silent
Does your dog groomer need to vote the way you do in order to give her your business? What about your pediatrician or a private sleep consultant you talk to about how to get your baby to nap more consistently? On mommy social media this week, we learned that there is a large mob of moms who demand total compliance to their “moral code,” which includes, of course, political candidates of their choosing.
The Daily Wire has the whole story, but here’s the relevant nuggets:
The leftist site Jezebel — calling the move to boycott Cara Dumaplin, a neonatal nurse, wife of a pediatrician, and a certified pediatric sleep consultant who hosts the Taking Cara Baby website, “a fitting round of niche protest” — notes that Dumaplin has “been featured on Good Morning America; 1.2 million people follow her on Instagram, where she posts inspirational content and short videos of tips for ‘conquering quarantine naps’ in a carefully muted color scheme.”
Her crime? Allie Stuckey explains,
There's a popular baby sleep trainer on IG who has incurred the wrath of the liberal mob because she donated to Trump. They've posted all of her training videos (which typically cost $) for free online & are encouraging everyone to unfollow her. The unity is palpable, y'all.

This goes beyond a traditional online mobbing; her livelihood, these training videos, is being ripped away from her by online woke vigilantes.
In this circumstance, it’s not just a mob targeting Cara’s brand, but Google is complicit in the dissemination of her material, thereby robbing her of her livelihood. The content should be flagged for copyright violations but has been circulated freely with users are linking to them directly on Google Drive and Google is doing nothing thus far to shut this down. YouTube, owned by Google, is already implicated in piracy, but now this piracy is being used to commit theft as political retribution.
What’s interesting is the fact that on Instagram, her follower count remains unchanged. While the mob is calling for people to unfollow her account, it doesn’t appear to be making any traction. While it’s encouraging that “real” Americans don’t hold it against a baby sleep trainer for donating to Trump, it’s terrifying that the mob is unchecked by these real Americans, cowed into silence by their ferocity.
My good friend (and fellow LadyBrains podcast cohost) Kelly Maher is trying to branch out and start a lifestyle brand called RealBestLife about urban farming and self-sufficiency. She has a blog, YouTube channel, Instagram and more. She never gets political on these channels because she viewed it as a liability (which it is), but after the mobbing of this sleep consultant, she spoke out, writing a powerful blog post about why she chose to “come out” on her brand account as a conservative:
Cara Dumaplin is living my nightmare (and girl, I hope today you have google searches for your name turned off, but if you don’t – I support you). I am so afraid that my political life will invalidate everything else I love, believe in, and want to share. Recently, I’ve caught myself preemptively pulling content, wondering if THIS is the thing that will turn the mob on me. I want to make this site and project successful, but I also know it’s a target as soon as that happens.
It’s sad to hide who I am because of worries that if a book publisher would ever consider letting me write a book about this project, my life so far will be too big a liability for them. If I have this other secret part of me, maybe someone who would partner with me will decline, as I’m too high a risk. I self-censor in the hopes of being marginally more socially acceptable.
Texting with a friend who is a legit food blogger as a profession (#goals) yesterday about the Dumaplin canceling fiasco, she made the critical point that the mob justice was brutal, but few stood with Dumaplin. We don’t support or protect ourselves out of fear. We allow ourselves and others to be publicly shamed, and every conservative feels more isolated when this happens. No one stands up and says, “ME TOO. I’m conservative, too.”
What does it look like to stand against a mob? As someone who has been at the center of several Internet firestorms, I have some advice:
- When someone is being mobbed, support them.
- That comes in many forms: Send a personal message of support (trust me, it means a lot).
- Post publicly that what is happening to them is unjust on social media, on their posts but also if you see content about them elsewhere.
- If their livelihood is threatened, support them. In the case of this mobbing with “Taking Cara Babies” buy a sleep course from her or gift it to a new mom friend.
- If they are a social media “influencer,” like Cara, their social media is their livelihood. Follow them and send their content and page to friends to support as well.
- If they are in danger of being fired, speak out in support of them in places their bosses will see it. Encourage them not to bend to the mob. (Public thank you to @BlueYeti for never firing me and also never asking me to publicly apologize for any of the firestorms despite fielding public and private calls for my dismissal because doing so feeds the mob and should almost always be avoided).
Conservatives should not have to have our own sleep consultants or pediatricians (which Cara’s husband is, and his practice is being targeted as well). They should not have to hide political donations or avoid making them in order to stay in business. The woke mob wants war, and conservatives need to stand up and form a bulwark around those who find themselves in their crosshairs.

Honestly what’s going to happen is that we need a separate everything. This society is already fractured and the sooner people realize it the better. We can bend to our leftist overlords, or we can start using right wing services only (and creating right wing only services) and start canceling leftists back.
People respond to incentives- what you subsidize you get more of what you tax you get less of. We need to financially ruin the other side by going after them. Is it ugly? Yes. An eye for an eye, what’s good for the goose, and what goes around comes around, etc. But there really are only 2 choices left because cancel culture is here. Intersectionality is here. We can’t go back to live and let live because they don’t let us.
The left has seen that cancel culture works. I’ve already taken it upon myself to distance myself as much as possible from social media and move to other platforms. I don’t use Facebook, google, Twitter. I’ve gone to DuckDuckGo and rumble (as much as possible), and I intend to join parler if they come back. I’m trying to avoid supporting leftists as much as I can and service right wing establishments when I can find them.
Splitting society into conservative only business and Dem only business is probably going to lead to problems later, but the alternative is capitulation to the leftists, and I’d rather burn it all down.
Until the left changes their ways, it’s going to be ugly. Make them hurt financially and culturally is the only recourse for now. And we need to cancel people. We need them to know how problematic their views are and criticize them as fascists. If some go out of business, well it’s going to get ugly, and that should be the goal. I think the daily wire trying to grow into the culture and combat leftism is a good start. We need credit companies and banks to have financial security, and we need right wing server farms to combat Amazon’s market share.
We need to take a lesson from the Equal Access Act of 1984 and protect people from being discriminated against – with a focus on public forums and essential services, such as banking – over political views. Most states have such laws for things as restaurants and other retail services, but not protection over political views or associations. I’ll post something on this in a day or two. We need something to rally around to fight back against cancel culture.
Conservatives have been just fine to go after Trump and Trump supporters too, to blacklist them as well.
Conservatism, Inc. is for blacklisting and banning. They will not stand against cancel culture.
We have to do it on our own.
One, don’t bow to the online “mobs” because they usually don’t represent very many people. And two, sleep consultant is an actual job?

Wouldn’t that conflict with freedom of association? Couldn’t expanding it to cover political speech have unintended consequences? I’ve personally never liked anti-discrimination laws. If a baker doesn’t want to bake a cake for a gay wedding, or a black person or a catholic, who are we to tell him how to run his business?
(I make exceptions for monopolies or utilities. I also think it’s fine to remove 230 protections from google etc because they behave as publishers not platforms).
Problem is, even if you modeled new laws on the old ones, and prevented discrimination on the basis of political views, there’s no real way it could be applied to cancel mobs. It could easily be applied to businesses—to prevent them from discriminating against customers—but not to the customers themselves, not to individuals to prevent them from discriminating against businesses. It’s not illegal for an individual to refuse to patronize a business based on the race or religion of the proprietor. How could such a law ever be enforced? The same obstacle is going to face any attempt to reign in cancel culture.

John Brennan is Back! and he has described on MSNBC how the “nominees and appointees” of the new Biden Administration and his extensive contacts in Law Enforcement , the Justice Department, Homeland Security, and even the Defense Department are moving in laser like fashion and doing “all they can” to “uncover” and “root out” “a very,very, serious and insidious” threat to our “Democracy and Republic” posed by these growing movements similar to insurgency movements we see overseas that are “germinating in different parts of the country ” in an ” unholy alliance ” of religious extremists, authoritarians , fascists, bigots, nativists, racists and even Libertarians that have generated “momentum” from the demagogic rhetoric by those who have just left government and even those who are still in the halls of Congress.
OMG! Did you hear that? There is a “very,very serious and insidious” threat to our Republic afoot described in detail by one of the most trusted wise men of the Obama Administration and former head of CIA. Why of course they should do”all that they can” by uncovering this insidious plot. I guess we will need tens of millions of political FISA warrants to surveil Americans not just the puny tens of thousands in the Obama Administration.
The number of insurgents seems vast. This absolutely necessary effort is thus going to require a monumental effort. That is for sure. Why our Republic is at stake! Why of course, the list of insurgents includes these “religious extremists”- surely all real Catholics, Evangelicals and Orthodox Jews, really – being honest – all those who believe in God. Then of course there are the Nativists who are against immediate granting of citizenship and opening the borders wide open. Such racists! Then of course are the legions of White Supremacists, lurking everywhere. But of course some of the worst offenders are these “libertarians” who believe in Free Speech, Freedom of Religion, the Right to Bear Arms, the Right to Life, Liberty and Property, etc who are really just trying to subvert Law Enforcement from capturing and executing these felonious miscreants.
This is a very large and serious task but we must get to it! We cannot delay!
Believe it or not, YES. Our twin boys didn’t sleep through the night until we hired a baby sleep consultant at 10 months – best money we ever spent!! I plan to purchase gift certificates from Cara’s site for all of my pregnant friends to help support her:-)
I’m starting to rethink my position on doing business with people who oppose everything I support. I used to say I don’t care what my plumber thinks as long as he fixes my pipes.
But dammit, now I do care. I’m starting to care now, especially when others are asking me what side I’m on. And when they do, I reply without shame or hesitation, “I’m conservative, so anything the left is in favor of I oppose with every fiber of my being.”
It’s easier to not care about your plumber’s politics, unless the plumber supports people who might want to lock you up.
