Joe Biden’s VP Dilemma
With less than 90 days until the election, Joe Biden still has not yet selected his running mate for Vice President. This has led to speculation, as you might imagine. Although also much less speculation than you might imagine, because Mr. Biden has already said that he will select a black female running mate. Based purely on qualifications and skills, of course.
It has also led to threatening letters from “black male leaders” informing Mr. Biden that if he does not select a black female running mate, that he is sure to lose the election. Because of Mr. Biden’s apparent failing health (cognitively, at least), many people view his choice for the Vice President to be unusually relevant in the upcoming presidential election. There are many interested parties involved, who are presumably putting as much pressure on Mr. Biden as possible to get their way. I have rather strong feelings on this matter, and if you’re interested in my analysis, please read on:
It does not matter who Joe Biden selects as his running mate.
Published in General
I think it could matter. Some options are worse than others, but my main takeaway is that the promise to pick a black running mate* is the height of stupidity that, in a normal election, should ensure his defeat. But these are not normal times.
*My memory is that he promised just that, not a black female running mate, and others are pushing the two-fer narrative. Am I wrong?
If the Biden people are smart (and that’s a huge “If”) they will choose Florida US House member Val Demings.
Trump’s task is to convince people that Biden is a trojan horse for the hard Left.
Val Demings, a former police chief, would make Trump’s task harder, though not impossible.
Rice is a decent alternative because she is more of a beltway person than a fire breathing Leftist like Elizabeth Warren or even Kamala Harris.
We will see.
He promised several things at different times.
You’d think someone conducting a stealth campaign from his house would be able to avoid the what-did-I-say-yesterday pitfalls.
I agree. He has backed himself into a corner. If the primaries had been contested even a week or two longer, Biden would have pledged to select the first left-handed transgender person of Belgian descent running mate.
It’s remarkably condescending.
Is that @gldiii?
I see what you did there, Doc, though I would have preferred that you leave the rest of the essay blank.
Think of this as the first Biden decision.
This is exactly what a Biden presidency will look like. Biden is not capable nor allowed to decide. A bunch of would be Marxists will gather, throw rocks at each other, conduct a survey, a pole, disagree, throw more rocks and eventually a decision will be made because there must be a decision. They will gather around the decision and discuss how wonderful it was, how inclusive. Then there will be leaks, backstabbing and eventually, more rocks.
What a time to be an American! Government by committee.
FIFY.
I distrust left-handed people. They have a higher rate of psychopathy and schizophrenia.
One might even call them sinister.
I wonder if they also provide two links that say the same thing.
My memory is that he promised to pick a woman running mate. Then George Floyd’s death and Amy Klobuchar withdrawing her name from consideration happened around the same time. After that it morphed into female “person of color” leading to the obvious joke that Elizabeth Warren still had a chance.
Those are ambidextrous people.
Those are the ones who are really messed up. Don’t mess with Mr. In-Between.
Not a south paw, and I still like woman as potential mating partners, and I’m not ashamed of being a man in fashion, thought, or deed. But other than those details, I guess I fit the remaining requirements.
Unless you have a to be a Democrat. That would be a show stopper for me to accept the VP nomination.
Yes, I think you’re right.
Well, it’s Kamala. Of course. She was the worst one of the serious contenders, so, naturally Joe the Genius went with her. Sigh.
Kamala, Kamala, Kamala. This should be fun. Hired a food taster, yet, Joe?
Six of the last twelve Presidents have been left-handed.
Edit: Including 5 of the last 8:
Ford
Reagan
HW Bush
Clinton
Obama
Okay, I’ll give it to Henry on those two.
I think the Night Stalker will still be calling the shots.
We should have a pool to guess when Biden will first call Harris:
Caramella
Karen
Jemima
Cayuga
The Black Chick
Cambodia
Steve
Car keys
I’m just kind of picturing Biden, during the final vetting process for Kamala, acting like Gen. Bartford Hamilton Steele questioning the helicopter pilot on MASH….
COL (chuckle out loud)
The Thing.
Henry, I was joking. But does it matter anyway?
Waiting for the ‘Driving Miss Daisy’photoshop with Crazy Joe as Jessica Tandy.
Are you sure Kamala won’t be the one in the back seat?
Actually, I think J&K are both in the back seat, and what we need to know is who is giving the driver the destinations.
