Quote of the Day: The New “Jewishness”

“Systemic” racism is beginning to resemble the Nazi notions of ‘Jewishness.’ An all-purpose explanation of failures. Once accused, there is no cure, no redemption, no right to humane treatment, only eternal exclusion and punishment. Hatred of the enemy is fundamental to membership in the party of the righteous to whom the future belongs.

–Old Bathos, Blog comment on “Letter to a Progressive Young Relation” (Ricochet.com, June 10, 2020)

I nominate this for Quote of the Day for some day in the near future.

Old Bathos made this quote in comment #2 at GrannyDude’s post, Letter to a Progressive Young Relation, here.

It’s a great quote.  My only disagreement is with the “beginning to resemble” part.  There is nothing new about this.  The racism and hatred inherent in the “systemic racism” argument has been apparent for a long time.  It’s hard to recall just how long.  It surfaced in the Black Power movement in the 1960s, then went underground.  It has been prominent in Black Liberation Theology since the 1960s.  According to Wikipedia (here), it surfaced again under the name “institutional racism” in the 1990s.

It was on display during Bill Clinton’s “Sister Souljah” moment in 1992, when he repudiated a radical proponent of this hateful and racist doctrine.  (See Wikipedia, here.)

I write this mainly to point out that the insanity of the Left is nothing new.  They’ve always been insane and reprehensible.  This goes for the moderates, too.  This last point is being demonstrated, again, right now, as people who consider themselves center-life are immediately radicalized.  They are literally forcing themselves to accept rioting and looting as acceptable (listen to the last Commentary podcast for a discussion of this).

We have been defining deviancy down not since the 1960s, but since the 1920s.  Like the proverbial frog in a pot, people don’t seem to notice that the temperature keeps going up and up.

Think about this: In 1980, it was controversial that Ronald Reagan was running for President, because he had been divorced.  Gary Hart had to drop out of the 1988 Presidential race because of an affair.  By 1992, Bill Clinton was elected.  Now it seems normal.  This appalling degeneration is evident in many areas of life.

Jerry, thanks.  I’ve updated the OP and removed my critical remark.  The criticism still stands.

Agree from top to bottom, left to right.  I didn’t mention the same problem I had, with “beginning to resemble”, because the quote was basically so good otherwise.

Some of us are insufferable too.

    I work hard on that.
