J.K. Rowling Doesn’t Back Down
J. K. Rowling delighted the Gender Critical community by publishing this piece today. In it, she eloquently expresses her concerns about the harm being done to women and to the feminist cause by removing the very concept of womanhood from language and life. She gets personal, bringing up some trials she has suffered and how they affect her feelings. She is not going to apologize for her opinions, and neither should she.
Huge numbers of women are justifiably terrified by the trans activists; I know this because so many have got in touch with me to tell their stories. They’re afraid of doxxing, of losing their jobs or their livelihoods, and of violence.
But endlessly unpleasant as its constant targeting of me has been, I refuse to bow down to a movement that I believe is doing demonstrable harm in seeking to erode ‘woman’ as a political and biological class and offering cover to predators like few before it. I stand alongside the brave women and men, gay, straight and trans, who’re standing up for freedom of speech and thought, and for the rights and safety of some of the most vulnerable in our society: young gay kids, fragile teenagers, and women who’re reliant on and wish to retain their single sex spaces.
For this thoughtcrime, she has been called ‘Voldemort’ and many of her SJW supporters who try to find a Harry Potter themed allegory for every situation are extremely hurt. Maybe they will try reading a different book. I, for one, support Rowling’s refusal to bow down to these insane people.

I don’t know much about Rowling, but she wouldn’t be the first to bow down right after defiantly refusing to bow down. God grant her strength.
On the other hand, if this means people stop reading those silly books – it’s a win either way!
Good for her.
Drew Brees could learn something from her.
It should be easy for them to do the book burning since that is the only book series most of them have read. Won’t have to dig far through their library to find a copy.
I read it, and she tried to use reason and understanding, have mixed feelings about its effectiveness. She didn’t really make the case any better than others. I do admire her seeming intent to stick to her opinion and hope she continues to.
She did use her personal story about her own sexuality, and when I got to the part where, (the 5th point) she was abused I stopped. She previously used Trump grab them comment, and I didn’t see where she brought up Weinstien, or Clinton, et. al. But, I guess, for her audience that would be the example.
It was not what I would call a strong paper, but a plea and answer to critics; you need to meet trans people – I have and they are wonderful, etc. isn’t a winner I have found.
She definitely has more cajones . . .
At what point will we all rise up and, standing athwart Leftie modernist twaddle, and just say NO?
Dear Lefties,
Free speech and all that, so gas on all you want about whatever – please yourselves.
But:
Just because you say a thing, that doesn’t mean it’s true.
Just because you believe a thing, that doesn’t make it true.
Just because you finally had some new ideas, and all of your friends (and professors) encourage you in them, doesn’t make them true.
Just because you call me a racist, doesn’t make it true. I’m very sure you don’t know what racism is.
Also, I don’t recognize your authority to be the arbiter of what constitutes racism, or anything else for that matter.
Once you resort to just calling me names, you’ve lost. At least lost interest to me, so we’re done here.
When you call me racist, or sexist, or homophobe, or whatever else, my response will be the same as always, said with a smile and a tinge of sadness: You are wrong about so much; I’m not surprised that you’re wrong about that too.
I applaud her and I also wish more people would stand firm – the only way to defeat the mob is to refuse to back down. Kyle Smith had a good piece (or was it Sonny Bunch?) about this back when James Gunn was fired from the Guardians franchise, where he basically said, the next time the mob comes for a scalp, make them earn it (“You’re going to boycott Guardians 3? Prove it.”).
At the same time, she has the advantage of having the next level above “F you” money: “F me” money.
The Left will go through the list of unacceptable thoughts, and doxx, and penalize.
Just like in a bank robber action movie, at the end, when one by one individuals the burglar troupe are knocked off. The last one standing takes the cash. And that one is the weasely, savvy one.
She and Harry Potter have colonized their library.
Soon. Very soon. I think the communing of the same begins at 7am, Tuesday, Nov 5, 2020.
Let the Left continue to expose themselves for the fools and tools they are.
Good for her. I always knew that she had some good in her. After all, the Harry Potter series was about the Good fighting Evil, before such concepts, so admired and loved by the Patriarchy, were effectively banned for use by all our right thinking leaders of our society. Also the reactions of the Ministry of Magic to Voldemort in the series were an eerie prediction of how much of our Elite Bureaucracy in Washington and London would react to Islamofascism.
I question the sympathy for Rowland. The tactics of her feminism have been turned on her. I wish she was introspective enough to see this.
I’m part of the generation that grew up with Harry Potter. I still read the series every 2-3 years. It’s a comforting and nostalgic series for me.
However, after the series ended, I quickly began to ignore Jo because she doesn’t know when to stop messing with her characters. She began to virtue signal almost immediately after the series ended in 2007. She even carries it to the current movie series she’s been writing. But I’m glad Jo isn’t cowering here. She finally understands what it’s liked to be bullied and cancelled for having the “wrong” opinions.
Her mountains of cash probably helps a lot, but it’s still nice having someone so famous stand her ground.
Good for Rowling.
I definitely don’t agree with all of the writer’s views as they have been expressed over the years, but that is completely okay! I happen to agree with her stance here on the issue of sex, but I’d happily support her impulse to simply stand up for free speech/free thought, even per those beliefs of hers that I find Annoying.
The truth is that there need to be champions like J. K.
One, she is OF the Left in a lot of ways, so she might persuade where others can’t. Two, she has more money than many small countries. She truly has the resources to not bend to tyrants. Thank God she remembers what freedom is and is trying to preserve it.
This is the heart of the matter and I think the best response. “Says who?”
I didn’t think she’d back down considering how she hasn’t in the past, but I was gobsmacked at how long and detailed and impassioned her response was. Good for her. I have a young niece who thought she wanted to be a boy, but her parents were not on board. She’s changed her mind about that, realizing she is gay but that she hated her appearance because she didn’t feel feminine enough. She’s come to terms with being herself. Teenagers are so hormonal and subject to peer pressure, I don’t know why any responsible adult would think it’s a good idea to let someone “transition” at that age. At least not without a thorough examination of what’s going on with them and their self image.
This is why would think people who are gay would be a bit more understanding of what Rowling is saying. Because the message a lot of people seem to be receiving right now is: Have feelings for someone who’s the same sex as you are? Maybe you’re transexual, not gay. To me, that seems like a message that almost totally undermines what the gay community has been saying for years.
Sure, but she’s already got her fortune made – he’s still earning his.
Through 2019, Brees’ annual NFL contracts totaled $245 million. His current contract runs through 2023 and totals $71 million. Plus he’s had untold millions in endorsements, etc. over the course of his 18-year career.
