Converting One Young Person at a Time

I walked back to our Receiving department this morning to check out something on our hold shelf. The smart young man who works there asked me what I thought of last night’s State of the Union speech. Now, in the past, this young man has been a leftist and we have argued back and forth congenially. Today, however, he told me that he was really impressed with the President’s speech, and we laughed over Nancy Pelosi’s juvenile conduct with her copy of the speech. He says that he is now a supporter and I asked him what changed his mind.

He told me that, on YouTube, he had seen a video by a young black woman, who was familiar with US history, and who took her viewers on a tour through black history, emphasizing which party was the real bigoted one, and which party actually improved the lot of black people in America.

He told me that the video got him to rethink his support of Democrats, now that he was presented with the truth of what they had done. We also discussed the other juvenile behavior of the Dems in last night’s audience and agreed they have an uphill battle trying to get rid of Donald Trump.

So we have one new Trump supporter around; I think he will be speaking to his co-workers, and maybe starting more conversions.

I’m so happy to hear this. I’ve felt depressed all day over the way Democrats and Republicans seem to inhabit two totally separate universes. I needed a dose of hope.

As soon as they get outside of the MSM bubble and are the least bit curious, the ready is easy. The next step is when they say something that’s not sufficiently within the party line and get viciously attacked for their wrongthink.

Well look at the intellectual dark web. Half of them are lefties who are sick of the intellectual constraints of modern Wokism.

Candace Owens and Brandon Straka have been doing yeoman’s work for years. They have opened the eyes of many. Godspeed to them and their fellows.

I think you mean Brandon Tatum, former cop and one of the leaders of Blexit.

There are lots of people in this. Brandon Straka (follow link above) started the WalkAway movement, which is broader than Blexit.

One at a time.  My general experience tracks with that principle – persuasion is solidified at the one-to-one level.  However, if I were to bet, I’d say that RushBabe49 is walking the walk about which she talks.  Her colleague is seeing consistency.  Most importantly, RushBabe49 has found the balance in her interactions with the coworker, so that she stands by her convictions but is also able to build bridges of friendship with people espousing a divergent ideology.  The friendship transcends the differences of opinion.  He sought out her opinion.  He feels comfortable sharing with her that he has changed his mind.  He must’ve felt comfortable that she wouldn’t ridicule him for having “once been wrong”.  I’m guessing that the banter wasn’t shrill.  I’m guessing that RushBabe49 is setting a great example for all of us.

I call coverting a leftist doing the Lord’s work!

And I don’t mean converting them to conservatism.  I mean converting him into a critical thinker who can look at real evidence, examine the motives of politicians, pundits, and the MSM, then make a sound judgment as to what the heck is really going on . . .

That sounds like a conservative to me!

If you really mean sound judgment, anyway.

I cannot take credit for this guy’s conversion. He did it himself.

    Right justification. Is that symbolic?

I never preach.  I just set it up so they can figure it out from where I left it. Plant a seed. It doesn’t always work but at least some thinking happens.
