Look Who Wants to Be Ricochet!
I was just reading an article in the Wall Street Journal about BuzzFeed, and its trials and tribulations over the past couple of years (losses, layoffs, etc). Now, I know very little about BuzzFeed, except for what I hear Rush Limbaugh say about them, and have never been to the website. Here are the last two paragraphs of that story from Saturday’s Journal:
The company also is seeking to create a membership model, with an eye on creating niche social communities for people with shared interests. “We believe people might be willing to pay a little bit to something if it reduced the amount of spam, trolls, and bad actors”, he [CEO Jonah Peretti] said.
You don’t say! Gee, now where could we find some people who would be interested in paying a little something to avoid spam, trolls, and bad actors?

On the other side? It would be interesting to see good faith participation in political discourse from the left. Let the yelling cease!
I wish them luck, and hope that the twenty or so libs who aren’t trolls and bad actors can find their way to the site.
I predict reasoned and spirited discussions of each and every facet of intersectionality while they determine once and for all which group is the most aggrieved.
Eventually the living will envy the dead.
What will they call it? Since “Ricochet” is taken, how about “Misfire?”
How ’bout “Circular Firing Squad,” too wordy?
“Flash-in-the-Pan?”
“So you swear this is going to change our readership numbers?”
“Oh yeah it is.”
Good luck with that. I suspect this will highlight the difference between Right and Left. We’ll find out if civility is a working model for progressive business.

I thought BuzzFeed was made up of spam, trolls, and bad actors. Get rid of those guys and what have they got left. Maybe they should think about it.

Does the left have their own “Ricochet?” Honest question. The closest I can think of is Vox, but they’re more of a content creator than a community. Ditto The Young Turks.

Actually, the other group that wants to be Ricochet is The Dispatch, Jonah Goldberg’s new venture. They are trying to set up a similar member feed section, etc.- but basically, they are “The Bulwark”, but at double Ricochet’s prices.
How they think this would be appealing, I don’t know. The wishful thinking of TDS zealots.
