Mini-Meetup in Aiken

I must be getting old, because I forgot to write this up before Thanksgiving.

I had a Mini-Meetup in Aiken with @drbastiat and his dad. He was on his way to round up daughters from college for Thanksgiving, and was passing through. It only lasted about forty minutes, but we had some coffee at a local McDonald’s as we chatted.

We mostly discussed things about Ricochet, especially other members. (Anyone’s ears burning out there?) I encouraged Dr. Bastiat to go to more Meetups, and even consider going on National Review cruises in spite of the never-Trumpers who also attend. (It’s still good fun!) We also briefly talked about where we currently live and how we got there. Maybe in a future Meetup with more time, we can go into more detail.

Once again, I’ll make my pitch—it doesn’t have to be a big Meetup at an expensive venue to get to know your fellow Ricochetti in person (although big Meetups are lots of fun). Back in 2016, my wife (neutral observer) and I drove to Mt. Pleasant, SC, to have dinner with @GrannyDude, and listen to a presentation she gave the next day. You can also meet folks while you travel, such as the lunch neutral observer and I had with @arahant last year on our way back to Aiken. We’ve also have a few Meetups in Fuquay-Varina with @blondie and @martyb, while we were on the way to or from Raleigh for various events.

So folks, if you can make the effort, try it. You won’t be disappointed!

    I was.

Ha!  Just kidding!  Stad & I had a great time, and hope to get together for a longer visit soon.

Seriously, it’s fun to put a face with the nom-de-cyber.  If anyone is in the Hilton Head area, let me know.

Well, if he’s Achin’, it must be the state of pain. Or one of the Carolinas.

Don’t put that on North Carolina! Haha! Aiken is in South Carolina down I-85 going toward Atlanta.
Meet ups are always fun even for just a cup-a-joe or adult beverage. Anybody coming to the Raleigh area can always give me a shout. That’s North Carolina. 😉

You must be thinking of Clemson, which is about 10 miles north of I-85.  We’re actually near the Georgia border, about 25 miles from Augusta, several miles south of I-20.  So, when are you and MartyB gonna come visit us?  I recommend I-40 to I-95 to I-20.

Very good post, Stad!  As Michael Bloomberg just said of Cory Booker, you are very well-spoken.

You make it clear just how informal, quick, and valuable these mini-meetups can be.

I’ll add my name to the Mini-Meetup Anytime candidate list (subject to appropriate spousal sign-offs, which I’m sure will be just a formality, except in two cases I can think of where special chaperoning rules may be demanded.)  :  Mark, Cincinnati.

Also if you want to get  a $6.00 coffee or a $15.00 beer Feb. 14-17 in Manhattan (the NY one) let me know*.

*Mack Wilberg, director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, is conducting a concert of his compositions, and our chorus will be singing.  Yes it’s probably a quid pro quo but we can actually sing.  Much better than Hunter Biden can run a Ukrainian petrol company.   It’s at 7:00 PM at Carnegie Hall on Monday the 17th.  Should be lots of fun and good music.  If you come, and you hear a low F in perfect pitch coming from a very post-dadbod bass in the back row of the risers, that’ll be I.

This is what I mean.  When we drove back from Michigan, we stopped for lunch with Arahant.  On the way up, we drove through Cinninati.  Could have had lunch with you . . .

Anyone who is interested in meetups and not yet a member of the Ricochet Meetup group, should join.  It’s the best way to keep up with upcoming meetups.

Some may denigrate it, but I have a mini-meetup with Concretevol almost every day.
