Democrats’ Ukraine Problem
The impeachment hearings are more or less just a sideshow for Democrats; there’s no way they’re going to actually remove President Trump from office. They are an attempt to placate a base that wants blood, even if the only blood they get from the Trump administration will be a papercut. Democrats have gravely miscalculated at what cost bringing the sordid Ukraine situation into public view: the liability it creates for their top candidate, former Vice President Joe Biden. Today Biden was asked about the situation and, well, he’s going to need to work on his response over the next ten months if he has a prayer.

My editor at the Forward rightly points out the obvious:
This voter acknowledges Trump's misdeeds wrt Ukraine before asking Biden about Burisma/his son. Biden calls him a "damn liar" and "fat." If this is how he responds to q's from someone who thinks Trump's guilty, how is he going to make it through a general election? Some Malarky! https://t.co/qxr4IlwQim

It’s time for Democrats to make a choice: Is Biden their guy? If so, it’s time to work on messaging his son’s corruption vis a vis Donald Trump’s actions in Ukraine.

Hey, at least he fights!
Isn’t that the line, and the point.
You’re on the money. Right or wrong, Biden isn’t taking any cr*p from anyone. So what if he messes up the facts or sounds stupid at times. He fights back, and voters like a fighter.
Just ask any Trump supporter . . .
The guy asking the question has a lot of guts and deserved to get a better answer. Biden is defensive and flubs the answer here. Why was Biden so insistent that the Ukrainian prosecutor be fired? Why threaten to take away the billion dollars?
It’s not going to work to say “nobody has said he or I did anything wrong.” The guy asking the question is basically saying he thinks it’s wrong what happened. He’s the voter.
We think that the insanity of the impeachment will harm the Democrats, but the insistent slamming of Trump is having an effect. They know ordinary folks well and they advertise their views like they were selling some harmful goop. If he’s actually impeached the Republicans will have to devastate the Democrats but they’ll probably be more civil than necessary. If the Dems come up with a real candidate they’re a threat.
Yes, the Trump v. Biden debates will be a cornucopia of angry nonesequetors.
