Jesus is Approved

VERONA, Wis. – A religious lunch program for high school students is officially expanding to Verona.
On Wednesday night, the Verona Parks Board approved a request for the Jesus Lunch program to host meetings at Harriet Park for the next six Wednesdays. The program will pay a fee to use the space.

Board members said religious groups have reserved the park for events in the past, so the request is not unusual. The Middleton Jesus Lunch program sparked student protests three years ago because it happened so close to the high school. The program provides a free lunch to high school students while sharing a biblical message.

It’s like there are Christians everywhere, or something.

Round up those Christians before too many people learn about grace, forgiveness, and loving one another.

For more than 25 years the church we belonged to where we previously lived (across the street from a high school) has offered pizza lunch every Friday. I noticed last week in the town where our daughter and her family live that a church across from that town’s high school also has a Friday pizza lunch.

The situation of the article is why Religious Freedom Restoration Acts are important – politicians tend to discriminate based on whether the politician agrees with the message when approving uses of public facilities.
