SCOTUS OKs Trump to Spend $2.5b on Border Wall

After a long court battle, the US Supreme Court gave Trump the go-ahead late Friday to use military funds for the wall. From NBC News:

The Supreme Court of the United States ruled in favor of President Donald Trump on Friday, allowing him to divert funds from the Pentagon to build sections of a border wall in Arizona and Texas.

Overturning a lower court decision, the ruling allows the president access to approximately $2.5 billion for the project while environmental groups fight the wall in court, arguing that the construction would produce environmental harm and would amount to spending money without the required approval by Congress.

Trump on Friday night hailed the court’s decision, tweeting: “Wow! Big VICTORY on the Wall. The United States Supreme Court overturns lower court injunction, allows Southern Border Wall to proceed. Big WIN for Border Security and the Rule of Law!”

Justices Ginsburg, Sotomayor, and Kagan dissented with the decision; Justice Breyer agreed only in part. The vote was 5–4.

From what I’ve read this is not so much new wall as to ” replace existing sections of barrier in the states of Arizona, California and New Mexico with more robust fencing. “

Fine by me. I think some of the existing barrier is so easy to get over that it might as well not exist.

There are pictures of fence jumpers on Drudge every now and then.

Walls don’t work without land mines or machine guns.

Of course they do. That’s just ridiculous.

Land mines are impervious to pain.

I like the double electic fence with a minefield inbetween . . .

Why? If you don’t man the wall, people will just knock it over or climb over it.  If you man the wall, you’d better have guns, or people will knock you over too.

The key element, which everyone wants to gloss over, is that illegal immigration will continue until the incentive to come illegally ends.

I think the new arrangement with the government of Guatemala is going to be extremely important, but again, it’s only a partial solution.  We need to make social benefits of all kinds ILLEGAL to illegal immigrants, especially social security.  If they get a job, contrary to the law, and pay into social security, then their contribution should still be required but forfeited.  That is the only way to substantially reduce illegal immigration.  And then we won’t need a stupid wall.

Or dig under it. Don’t forget that part.
