When Feminism Gets Problematic
Actress Busy Philipps is running afoul of some progressive activists this week for saying something so mundane it has, of course, become problematic.
“If men had their periods, it would be like f*cking celebrated… it would be like a holiday.” Watch @BusyPhilipps in the new CBSN Originals doc, “Period. Half the population has one. But no one talks about it,” streaming now: https://t.co/uEhCGTr0Fo pic.twitter.com/dhCBcJOT3j

“Men don’t get periods. Women get periods.”
This is going to put the usual man-hating feminist playbook in a tough spot. If men can be women and men don’t have to have any actual female parts in order to be considered women, is it now transphobic to hate men because they can’t menstruate? What about women who can’t; who never could and never will because they have biologically male parts?
Modern feminism has become women martyring themselves for living the female experience, but if men and women are now interchangeable and if there is no difference between the sexes, how can women differentiate themselves at all, for the sake of feminism or not? It will be curious to see how feminism celebrates femininity in this new culture where the only thing that seems to qualify as womanly is how we look on the outside.

Well, if we ever get down to a grievance blockchain group of one, then gender, species and elocution will be singularly individual…

I had initially thought the promotion of “transgenderism” was going to bring down the activist homosexual agenda first, but it looks like the activist feminist agenda is coming down faster.
Bethany,
You are suggesting that there are “inherent contradictions” in the feminist identity politics zeitgeist and that “problems” may arise because of it. Of course, this is a very nice way of saying it. I personally prefer “sexual schizophrenia” to “inherent contradictions” and “social catastrophes” will result rather than “problems” may arise.
Has a little more zing to it.
Regards,
Jim
It’s pretty simple folks.
“Men don’t get periods. Women get periods.”

I can’t wait for the trans women to start having prostate problems as they age.
Women need to stop being so exclusionary . . .

Man, indymb, that’s some talking.., not sure if I get it, but I enjoyed the bit of Sammy.
Ya know, this is what happens when the Illogical Left tries to get logical. Best they keep to their daft insane “magical thinking”fantasy world where up is down and right is wrong when speaking, and try to avoid trying to venture back into the sane world of the real, where the inherent contradictions of their arguments almost always immediately come unglued and exposed for the their insane weirdness.
Doctor: Sir, you…
Patient: It’s ma’am.
Doctor: Uh, okay. Ma’am, you have prostate cancer.
Twitter: Somebody I’ve never heard of saying something I don’t care about.
Want some popcorn?
This seems a good opportunity to link to this classic.
I’d wondered if the name Loretta was chosen because of the Beatles’ song “Get Back”. According to the trivia page at IMDb, Eric Idle chose it because of Marty Feldman’s wife’s name.
I know the entire transgender objection to her comment. She has gotten another thing wrong.
From the original tweet – “If men had their periods, it would be like f*cking celebrated… it would be like a holiday.”
If men had periods, it would be considered a sign of patriarchal oppression. Men don’t get celebrated in the New America.
Remember they are The Party of Science!
Exactly.
And will love to see the insurance company refuse the bills for pap smears and mammograms for Transmen.
O brave new world,
That has such people in’t!

You know, just grouchy, I guess. It’s that time of month.
She should have prefaced her opinions with a disclaimer.
Haha, everybody knows that if men got periods they’d only be expected to work 3 weeks a month!
I’m old enough to remember when that was comedy, not a serious discussion (and by old enough I mean anyone who can remember back to 2017)
I recently rewatched Meaning of Life. In the birth scene, the mother asks what sex the baby is and the doctor replies, isn’t it too early to be assigning those roles (or something close). It’s a joke, not something to make happen.
Remember when “I’m a lesbian trapped in a mans body” was a joke?
Now it’s an identity.
I don’t understand the title of this post. My lived experience is that feminism has been problematic at least since I stumbled upon it in the 1970s.
We male Feds only worked one week a month, and that was without having periods. Take that!
I talked to a medical professional once who said that a “woman” had come into the hospital for some reason, but also had “vaginal” bleeding. Apparently, both the transexual male and his female partner spent some time talking about the fact that he was having his period (which had happened before). I guess this was something that everyone had to just go along with. The dr. wanted to send a sample to be tested because the facts are: men don’t have periods, period. The bleeding is a sign of advanced cancer that would need to be dealt with immediately.
I don’t remember the rest of that story – I know the couple refused to acknowledge that it was anything other than a period, and neither ever admitted that “she” was actually a man. What I don’t remember is whether the hospital required to dr. to go along with this delusion, though I can only imagine that the patient has since died.
