Do Democrats Want to Beat Donald Trump?

With the continued emphasis on the Russia-collusion story even after the Mueller report was a giant letdown for the folks desperately hoping the President of the United States was a Manchurian candidate, it seems Congressional Democrats are unwilling to face what we’ve known for over two years: voters chose Donald Trump. The media is determined to keep their heads under the sand as well, feeding the continued hysteria about obtaining the President’s tax returns, despite the fact that voters chose to elect the President without them.

As the next election comes up, we’re left to wonder how many Democrats running for office actually want to beat Donald Trump. See this from frontrunner Elizabeth Warren:

Warren has refused to appear on a Fox News townhall because she objects to the network’s very existence. And yesterday, we learned that a progressive organization refused to allow another conservative outlet, the Washington Examiner (disclaimer: my husband is the Executive Editor of their fine magazine) entry into one of their events with Bernie Sanders:

In her essential book on Trump’s victory, journalist Salena Zito analyzed how exactly the President achieved what every other journalist had deemed impossible. She wrote (starting on page 36),

[Joe] Keenan is not afraid to say who he voted for in 2016; he is also not afraid to say who he voted for in 2008 and 2012.

I voted Obama, Obama, Trump,” he says.

Keenan’s support for Obama was not unusual in Vernon County. The Democrat won 60 percent of the local vote in 2008, beating Senator John McCain by 23 points in this rural rectangle that is home to 30,814 people – a wider margin than he scored statewide.

By 2016, Vernon County had flipped to support Donald Trump – both in the presidential primary and in the general election – one of twenty-three counties in the Badger State to swing from Obama to Trump. Only Iowa saw more localities change hands, as both states moved hard to the GOP. Wisconsin hadn’t been painted red in the electoral college since 1984.

Hillary Clinton’s inability to repeat Obama’s victories in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan alone denied her the electoral college majority she needed to become president.

Who are Trump voters and why did they choose to vote for the President? Two years into his presidency, Democrats still not only have no idea, but they have no interest in finding out or changing their minds. They have instead spent the last two years calling Trump voters racist neanderthals, complicit in a Russian campaign to take over the White House. They refuse to meet voters where they are, in the pages of their publications and on their chosen network.

We don’t have to imagine how this strategy is going to play out, we already saw what happens when you don’t take Donald Trump seriously; Republicans learned during the primaries, and Hillary Clinton learned in the general election. He is the President of the United States and the man to beat. If they want to do so (because there is no magic bullet via impeachment, etc forthcoming), Democrats might want to actually step outside their echo chamber and talk to voters.

Warren projects,  running for the nomination of the party of the Confederacy, Jim Crow, and segregation (in the 50’s and in today’s universities).  I’ve seen no evidence that the party has ever changed.  All of the cities where black lives don’t matter, where black children aren’t educated, where blacks are actively oppressed, all of them are run by Democrats.

I have nothing but contempt for Elizabeth Warren because I actually am part Native American (my grandmother was Mohawk).  I never checked the box.  Her story is “pasty white lady games the affirmative action racket for her own advantage”.  Trying to base government on theft and giving away “free” stuff only makes it worse.

Bethany Mandel: Who are Trump voters and why did they choose to vote for the President?

Because they are fed up with both parties who promise the moon but deliver green cheese – and we all know the moon is not made of green cheese . . .

You take that back!  What a hateful thing to say.  The demand for Democrat safe spaces just went up multi-fold.

Are you invested in such, by any chance?

You’ve read the sign – usually scotch-taped to a front-facing window where everyone can see it – which reads “HATE HAS NO HOME HERE.” Whenever I walk past one of these houses I say to myself, really? No home here? You mean to to tell me the owner of said house does not hate Donald Trump? Something tells me he or she does. And most likely so do their children and perhaps even their companion animals. Of course they hate Donald Trump. This is Hate Central. This is where Hate eats breakfast and collects its mail. These things are impossible to quantify but I hazard to guess that ninety-percent of the hate swirling out there like a sulfurous miasma is produced by the Left. Imagine if Donald Trump or Mike Pence were to receive an invitation to appear on The Rachel Maddow Show, or The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. I bet they would jump at the chance, eager for the opportunity to show that they are not the ministers of Moloch* as they are portrayed 24/7 on TV.

No, they do not want to “beat” Donald Trump.  Dems want to virtue signal and they want to change the rules where they don’t have to stoop so low as to even play “the election game” with someone as icky as Trump.  They envision themselves so far above him (and those that voted for him) that they can’t hardly conceive they have to run in an election with him.

Hillary didn’t win because there were too many people who remembered law firm billing records magically appearing in a box on a White House library table after two years or $1000 cattle future investments returning at a rate of 9900%. They were tired of that nonsense. They wanted new nonsense.

Us older voters were tired of twenty plus years of the Clintons. There was a reporter who said he mentioned one of Hillary’s old stories and the young reporters around him had no idea what he was talking about. They really weren’t curious either.

It’s a good question. Sometimes one side or another just has no viable candidates, but they gotta run somebody. And who knows, the candidate might win.

I think the issue here is the word “democrat”. It looks like the presumption is that this is some kind of contiguous group that has some kind of hierarchy that can control its members and its message.

By the way, neither can Republicans.

So Trump emerged naturally after two cycles of serial ignorance of what actual voters wanted. We still see it in the desperation of Never Trumpers on the right who make EW look sane.

I think when sharks smell blood in the water they all go into a frenzy.  20+candidates (all with the EQs of teenagers) who each think this is their shot to be the big fish. Maybe the blood is Trump’s. Maybe the blood is from one of their own. Maybe they are just getting confused by the chum they are throwing in the water. It won’t matter. This will be not be a rational election cycle.  It will be chaos.

We shouldn’t forget that most of these candidates are running to be VP. A great and very easy job, even Biden could do it!

indeed.  Trump bashing the most popular thing the Dems can agree on.  Trying to one-up each other on Climate Doomsday not popular.

I think this explains whats going on.  I suspect hate might be a fun emotion.  You get to be smart, better than other people, and hang out with the cool kids.  Or maybe they are blinded by the media, who can couple self importance with marginally increased revenue.  But they are not focused on winning.  Biden will be tainted by the investigations into Russia-gate which will show his Vice Presidency in a very bad light.  How hard is it to come up with a candidate who is not under the taint of a criminal investigation involving, you know, an actual crime?
