Law Talk: A Comment on March 27 Episode
“Stunned” is the best word to describe my reaction to Richard Epstein’s stated opinion that all should be forgiven with those Federal employees who abused their power in the FISA/Russian collusion drama for fear of the downside to such a pursuit of justice.
This scandal has roiled our country and had significant financial and emotional costs for the targets involved — not to mention the negative impact on foreign policy over the past two years, of which I am painfully aware, living abroad. But what the heck, let’s mention it. Can you imagine the damage done to our negotiating position with enemies and allies alike who were told by lovelies like former Secretary of State John Kerry just to wait it out, the pesky Trump would be gone soon? Try.
No, sir. In order to make sure that this doesn’t happen again — for at least a decade or so — there must be a cost paid by those complicit in this chicanery. If we cannot control the corrupt actions of Federal employees in responsible positions, there will be a concerted effort by citizens like me to shut it down. By “it,” I mean the FISA courts, and its ilk.
Further, in order to restore a little faith in our justice and IC community, there must be an atonement through the criminal courts for the egregious illegalities. Epstein’s litany of instances of collusion present in the Clinton investigation where no such charges were brought plus the difference in the treatment of those surrounding Clinton who were given immunity, versus those in the ‘Trumposphere’ who had the hounds of legal hell set upon them makes the case for me. As it stands now, I will hold them (IC/Justice) in contempt if there is no redress.
Judge Rosemary Collier has kindly given us a, shall we say, “roadmap” in her scathing opinion on the Obama Justice Department’s use of four contractors to illegally access the NSA database in the unmasking/leaking of info on targeted US citizens to the jackals in the press. These were all violations of the Espionage Act. Pick up the damn baton.

It’s way to early to rule out anyone regarding potential prosecutions. Right now, the most important thing is to get answers to questions. I posed some and there are many others. After we have unraveled the story and have those answers, decisions on accountability can be made.
Also, while I think it clear that Hillary Clinton broke the law and should be prosecuted (assuming there are no statute of limitations that apply), the same cannot be said for President Obama. We simply don’t know enough right now to assert otherwise.
I think there is a lot more to uncover that will reflect badly on the participants in this mess but also caution that there are some overarching theories being floated on the Right that may also prove to be inaccurate as we learn more.
I’m less concerned with “will this hurt the Democrats’ feelings” than I am with making sure that each and every employee of the government entities to which we entrust such awesome power knows that there are consequences for screwing around with that power. That has to include FBI Directors, CIA directors, etc. Same spanks for all ranks.
Agreed. This is republic threatening corruption. We simply cannot knuckle under to the heckler’s veto, which is all the Left really ever does at this point. They have no arguments, only scapegoating and accusations. They need to be put down hard.
There’s blood in the water, but this time the sharks are the good guys.

Indeed.
In the ~19 or 20th or somewhere at around 30 hours of Augustine’s City of God, Audiobook in 4 parts on Youtube, is (almost) exactly the attitude he expresses re civil law, justice, etc…
However, I am thinking long and hard on these things simply because there are weighty issues at hand. And, as odd as it seems, the issues, a I see them, (and would either investigate, recommend, rule, or execute…whatever fictional role an author would write me into) would not be tainted by a partisan-spirit. I can’t prove that by having a chest x-ray, however, my conscious is clear in stating it is true.
I’m praying that if non-fictional people like that are responsible to their Creator to do their duty, and between He and they, the conscience is clear. Paul writes that the government was given to punish the evil doer, and it is not for nothing the Creator gives civil government the power of the sword.
I mean, those who have been given the authority can stand by and do nothing, and I am persuaded help will come and God will raise up another for this purpose, but, perhaps, one of you are here for such a time as this?
