Jeb Miffed There’s No Bush as Prez
Jeb Bush thought America should have three consecutive Republican Presidents from the same immediate family. Think about that.
In his “defense,” he may have known, either consciously or unconsciously, that if nominated, he would lose. I’m not ruling that out as a possibility seeing him and his family in light of transpired events.
I also wonder if Jeb thought about how his entrance into the field of Republican wannabes would affect other candidates and may (if he failed to get the nomination) scuttle the chances of Marco Rubio especially — a fully qualified candidate who held very similar policy views as the Bush family. This is essentially what happened as we look back.
Jeb raised a whopping $100 million, much of which would have gone to Rubio, as well as the endorsement of the Bush network and the famiglia Cespuglio itself. Trump would not have had much chance to emerge against a united establishment behind a young dynamic candidate with early momentum.
Now Jeb believes Republicans should have a “choice” in 2020. I don’t remember if he had the same sentiment in 2004 when his brother ran for re-election.
He likes moderate Republican from Maryland Governor Hogan as a primary challenger.
Two questions: Why should anyone, even establishment Republicans, listen to to the political advice or preferences of this guy?
Do these people — Jeb!, Bill Kristol, Max Boot, Jen Rubin, et al. — not see how whomever they tout and support for 2024 will be anathema to even the most reluctant Trump voter?

If Jeb had the last name of “Smith,” he would have gone a lot farther than he did with the last name of “Bush.”
Jeb would have gone first if he had won the Florida’s governor’s race in 1994 by only 63,000 votes, 51-49%
That assumes that Smith would have become governor in the first place. Jeb also had the advantage of name and connections when he ran there in Florida.

You can't ask Gary to explain *and* to stay away from your leg. The two are contradictory. Pick one. Mongo's point with the analogy was about when it's not worthwhile to engage. Not following you. Explanation, please and
Stay away from my leg.Just letting him know I’m not that kind of girl (or guy).
Now the moderators are judges too!
And mind readers.
Could Jeb have won?? Would he have said this??
You mean they had the gall to go against what voters elected Trump for. Good thing I’m not President. I’d have a double fence with a minefield between the two on our southern border.
I was a proud member of the Tea Party. One of our fundamentals was adherence to the Constitution. Article I gives the power of the purse to Congress. I’m with Senators Lee, Toomey, Blunt and Romney on this one.
I’m with protecting Americans from foreign criminals.
Nor am I, but apparently Mongo Boss is, per Comment 81. Sad. Very sad.
Trump threatening to put Hillary in jail is one of the best examples of why he is disqualified.
Somehow Obama, Romney, McCain, W., Kerry, Gore, Clinton, Dole, H.W., Dukakis, Reagan, Mondale, Ford and Carter managed to run for the Presidency without threatening to jail their opponent.
Most of those people were running against people who hadn’t committed an embarrassing number of very obvious crimes.
I am all for that. I would have voted in the 115th Congress to give Trump money for his wall. If memory serves, Schumer offered some $25 billion in exchange to protect the Dreamers, with some 82% of Americans (and a majority of Republicans) agree with.
But Trump didn’t get the money when he should have. And he acted so much like a jerk that women, the educated, the suburbs and the young elected 40 Dems to the House to be a check on Trump.
Doing damage to the Constitution is not a price I am willing to pay.
But Hillary was running against someone who had apparently committed an embarrassing number of crimes, namely Trump, and Hillary didn’t threaten to throw Trump in jail.
BTW, the rage in MSNBC is that after Trump is no longer President, the SDNY and State of New York will seek to dismember the Trump Organization under RICO.
If the reports are accurate, Hillary is responsible for putting the name of a covert asset in an open e-mail. If done willfully, that alone should have put her behind bars. However, if it had been a first offense and an honest mistake, it should have, at minimum, resulted in loss of her security clearance. I am appalled to see what you are willing to excuse in Trump’s opponents because you hate Trump.
In fairness, the members of the GOP showed the e-mail with the asset’s name visible. They at least tried to recover.
So how do you feel about Jared and Ivanka receiving security clearances dispute the negative recommendation by the National Security experts?
Do you know what is on their SF-86? I doubt it, and neither do I. Why would I have an opinion without that information? Also, I don’t know the level of their clearances/accesses.
If the reports about Hillary are true, would you be concerned.
Yes. However, only banana republics jail their opponents.
That is nonsense and you know it. If she had been jailed, it wouldn’t have been because she was Trump’s opponent. It would have been because she received the treatment anyone else who handled classified information carelessly would have received and that she was convicted. I believe that is what Trump meant, though I’ll agree he can be petty and vindictive at times. We used to have an acronym for guys like Trump: RFA. (Ready; Fire; Aim.)
BTW, I would have been happy to have seen Hillary lose her clearances. Jail would have been icing on the cake.
Has Trump jailed Hillary? Help me out please. Do you believe that Hillary did not commit a crime by creating, and only using, a private email server to do government top security business?
Hm. I’m one of the educated, and I didn’t vote for a Democrat.
I voted for Reagan Republicans like Governor Doug Ducey, but against Republicans who ran in the primaries as the authentic Trump Republicans.
The Reagan Republicans won their general elections, while many of the Trump Republicans lost their general elections to relatively moderate Democrats.
I just heard The Bulwark needs more cash. Get on it Gary!
I would say it was one of the best examples of why he won the election . . .
Actually, The Bulwark already has 500 donors, a very healthy haul for a website that doesn’t have a paywall or membership fees.
It hardened my heart. It reminded me of authoritarian rulers of banana republics, and the nightmares of the middle 20th Century.
Not sure what the heck that has to due with the Argument. The debate is not weather Trump was the better pick or if Jeb would of beat Hillary. The post was defending Jeb that his voting Record and policy wise he is very Conservative and not a RINO except in two major areas. I get sick of the Ad Homa attacks on his character. Our problem in our nation is we dont judge a politician on their actions like we should. We judge them on their words. We have msn and the media attacking our guys enough. We need to stop blanket generalization attacks on our people when we agree with 80% of there platform and voting record. Attack the specific areas you disagree with. Dont attack their general stance or character because your to ignorant to see based on their actions to see if those generalization hold true. Ther are plenty of Republican smooth talkers hat deserve the criticism based on their actions. To attack the guys that have and would move the overall needle to be more conservative is just idiotic and self destructive.
So you had no problem with Hillary generally. The Clinton Foundation pay to play scandals, the casual if not extremely negligent handling of classified information, the Uranium one deal with Russia?
It’s okay, you’re fully aligned with the Bush, Max Boot, Bill Kristol wing of the neoconservative movement. Reagan notsomuch.
This is why we can’t have a nice party. Hasta la vista, baby!
Its a counterfactual but I think it holds true. I thought about making the point but did not. I was more defending Jeb but pointing out his issues than wishing for an alt history. I would add his wife who hates being a politicians wife is why I think Jeb has not run for another state office. Therefor he has become more irrelevant.
