Rosenstein Out? (Update: WH Denies)

From Political Wire:

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has verbally resigned to Chief of Staff John Kelly in anticipation of being fired by President Trump, Axios reports.

Per a second source with direct knowledge: “He’s expecting to be fired,” so he plans to step down.

Update: Sources close to Rosenstein deny he’s resigned.

Apparently he’s heading to the WH for a meeting with the President where he expects to get fired.

Update 2: WP reporting he’s offered his resignation. Unclear if it was accepted. NYT says “It was not immediately clear whether he expected to be fired by Mr. Trump or whether he planned to resign.”

Update 3: (From @jon)

    Good tactical move by Trump.

Dump Rosenstein, announce someone the Left doesn’t have a dossier on, get them all chasing after that, and approve Kavanaugh while the press is trying to find dirt on the new guy.

I’m shocked (shocked!) that talk about wearing a wire and removing your boss would cost somebody his job in the federal government.  What is this country coming to !?  It’s like the Stalinist purges, the Reichstag fire, the beer hall putsch, and the Saturday Night Massacre.  Or something!

This is funny because it shows how clueless the press are. Clowns rushing to be the first with what may, may not be true. And people are breathlessly awaiting. Which is even funnier.

Whether for incompetence or malfeasance, Rosenstein has to go.

The mandate to Mueller was absurdly broadly written and then pushed even beyond what skeptics originally argued.

Are there any honest snakes left in the snake pit that is the DOJ after 30 years of Deep-State-ization by the Left?

Could be a trap for President Trump. Notice the wording “ expects to be fired”. Also could rats jumping ship. Does Rosey think the IG is going to release the docs. real Soon?

Well, so much for Kavanaugh accuser number two, being the top story. Looks like the White House will douse itself in gasoline and strike a match, to get some attention.

I honestly don’t understand your point here.  Isn’t it at odds with what we know?  Was the White House behind the story about Rosenstein’s discussions?  Would anyone not expect him to get the axe?

The guy in charge of the of Mueller has a story come out that he was willing to wear a wire in order to get the President removed. That guy can not be fair and balanced as the guy in charge of an investigation. He should absolutely be fired.

People who support the Mueller investigation should be on board with this firing as well. For Mueller to matter it has to be seen as legitimate. The investigation and the DOJ cannot keep handing Trump talking points that the DOJ officials are just out to get him.

That Trump is looking to replace Rosentein with a lackey that will kill the Russiagate investigation? I guess we know he’s been gunning to do this for over a year now. He fired Comey to stop it, as he admitted to in a interview. But, hey since firing Comey only made the investigation more official and problematic for him politically (and I support anything that makes personal life harder and more frustrating) I say go for it. Good luck getting a replacement confirmed by the Senate. Also, once you fire Rosenstein he can just go and blab to everyone about what he knows. He  can write op eds outlining the White Houses and the Presidents own dis-functionality. That will be supper fun.

This won’t turn into a giant political mess one month out from the Midterms putting all Republican candidates on the spot at all..

    Light the match I say.

    I tripple dog dare him.

OK.  It’s irrelevant whether Trump wanted to replace Rosenstein with a “lackey” because he has a    justifiable reason to do so now.   The fact of the matter is that Rosenstein has held his position throughout this controversial time and Trump has not fired him.  The fact that he would do so now for a reason should hardly be seen as lighting any kind of match.

Not sure if your question was directed to me, but I think that it’s pretty clear that on inauguration day 2017, the entire upper echelon of the DOJ was crawling with Democrat apparatchiks, many of which have been fired or reassigned.

I do not know the makeup of the lower ranks of the DOJ, but I’d bet dollars to donuts that it is predominately Democrats, with a smattering of independents and conservatives. After the 8-year Obamathon, you have to wonder how many of those (non-Democrats) are still around.

Tactical cleverness seldom works out well, at least for Republicans, unless it’s rooted in truth and part of a strategy.  Just approve Kavanaugh immediately as they should,  and deal with Rosenstein as the facts are uncovered.

A coup? How many of Trump’s staff haven’t joked about pulling the 25th Amendment on him in private for all his nonsense? No more venting about the boss eh. Maybe he should just have political minders supervising everyone at all times. Talk about Stalinist… but then again Trump is now best buds with DPRK tyrant “Little Rocket Man”.

Just a refresher that Rosenstein also appointed a special counsel with limitless authority to investigate even though there was no factual grounds that Trump or anyone in his campaign committed a crime. He also stonewalled legitimate congressional oversight. Of course, you don’t care about any of that.

Saw some speculation on Twitter that the firing news was a Canary Trap. The WH does need to do something about the leaks, and this could be a two-fer in that it drowns out some of the Kavanaugh news. Interesting theory anyway. I guess we’ll see if some other WH staff get fired soon.
