Ladies and Gentlemen: It. Is. On.
Tomorrow is the opening ceremony for Fuerzas Comando 18. This year, the competition will be held in the wilds of Panama. Special Operators from about 19 countries from the Caribbean, the US, and Central and South America will square off to see who will be the Fuerzas Commando champion.
It’s a week of suck. Don’t come if you don’t want to hurt. You can follow the competition on Facebook via the SOCSOUTH page.
I’ve posted this before, but I’ll do it again. It’s the best promo made for FC. And it’s got about .37 seconds of Mongo in it, so there’s that.

I think it is.
I bet you have an all-access pass in your scrapbook, right? :-)
Any non-Facebook way to keep up? (no facebook traffic passes my routers.)
None shall pass…
I have no idea, but I’ll find out. I’ll post updates here, for sure, as long as our Public Affairs guys are also posting videos on youtube, which I’m sure they will.
Task: Keep Phil updated.
On it.
Yeah, I see it: Facebook the Balrog.
Youtube I allow.
Appreciated.
Wow. So immersed in the problem I didn’t even see it. So, a Spanish language film company approaches the US unit that executes Fuerzas Comando every year, wanting to make a documentary that it can sell to a Spanish language media company (can’t remember if they sold it to Univision or Telemundo).
First three sentences of the trailer:
You know what the exact synonym for “frontiers” is in Spanish?
Borders.
Didn’t hear any crying or moaning from the vast Latin American audience.
Things that make you say hmmm.
@BossMongo, I’m curious: In some of the pictures, it appears that some troops are shooting 3″ bbl semi’s. Is that accurate – um – true? Or is it appearance alone, as a function of big hands / thick gloves? I would think people in these roles would want 5″ bbl’s. And if the barrels are shorties, why would they choose them, given the sacrifice in accuracy and velocity?
So, at about 2:40?
Edit. Yep, already answered.
Day 1 scores posted on day 2.
Not a great day for Team America. This is after the PT test and the 25km road march. I’ll try to find out if there was a weirdo anomaly or something.
Did you ever work with the Chilean SF? I would expect more from them than 9th place.
Yep about Team USA. Something ‘not right’ there me thinks.
The Chileans are so close to “near peer,” we may as well call them peers. They’re awesome.
I’m guessing this is held at one of the former US CZ forts. Any idea which one?
@basilfawlty, various events are held all over the country. A lot of the old CZ forts are now high-end condos/apartments and houses. Don’t know if the old training grounds of those forts are in use or turned over and, uh, de-militarized.
@quietpi: No shorty barrels. The appearance is caused by big hands, gloves, and camera angle. I got accused once of “flagging” someone with my M4 due to a photo, it was just the angle perspective of the photo.
Easy, Boudreaux. We’ll do okay. On accounta we can do it All. Night. Long!!
You lie!
The U.S. and Lionel Richie. All. Night. Long. Seriously I am surprised because PT is usually one of our strengths. Perhaps some strategy is afoot .
@dajoho, mebbe. But I sniff something that smells like either an anomaly or a shenanigan. PT and road march and we’re second to last? Inconceivable!!
I suspect (more to follow) that an individual or the team got disqualified for some esoteric, trumped up reason.
This morning Mongo query to a source at the competition: 2nd to last? What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on? We get disqualified for one of the events, or something.
Answer: Too many bulked boys. We should advance with the technical skill events.
Makes sense. Since I got out, I’ve dropped weight until I’m nigh unto scrawny. I get it.
When people see a big guy gas out, they almost universally think, “See, guys get that big because they ignore the cardio.” Not true. Bulked brethren gas out because their body can’t get rid of the heat as fast as they’re generating it. I’m thinking: Road march, in Panama.
Hopefully, the boys layed up, not wanting to either overheat or put themselves in a position where they’d perform less than optimally later on. We’ll see.
Just saw our boys are tied for 3rd with Honduras, with Ecuador in second, and Columbia in first.
Final standings. Not too shabby for Team USA, especially after our not too stellar first day.
OOHRAH, HOOWAH, BOOYAH, etc. :-)
