It’s Time to Own Trump

He’s our President and many good things will come from his administration despite his verbal cholera. Sure there are problems but the positives outweigh the negatives by far. I’m taking a break from politics. Too many crooks and haters not serving anything but themselves. Too much hate in the world and too much sensitivity in me to think about the impeach/assassinate crowd and where that all goes.

I’m off to shoot an elk at the end of next month and my Weatherby 300 is reliably hitting a pie plate at 500 yards. See you folks after I kill God’s creatures.

Best of luck and happiness to all the Rico crowd, old and new.

I remain Never(EverEver)Trump and will continue to remain so. I didn’t vote for him in 2016 and wouldn’t under any circumstances vote for him if he were to stand for election again (which, I would assert, is not a guarantee)…

Tell me, Karl.  In what way is your position different than that of the people you accuse of standing by Trump no matter what?  You’re at different ends of the spectrum, but both have taken the position that no facts or events will change their minds.  That’s religious fervor, not logical thinking.  You just go to a different church is all.

@docjay you are so right.  There are times when you have to pick a side.  I’m on Trump’s side and America’s.

Trump  is the only person speaking truth at the moment: witness Charlottesville. He comes out and calls for national unity. And states the simple, undeniable fact that there has been a lot of violence since 11/8/16.

I thought he showed remarkable restraint in not accusing the Left of being worse, on balance.  DisruptJ20?  James Hodgkinson?   C’mon!!

I’m grateful for voices like @docjay and @johnkluge on Rico.

We are being gaslighted by the Left.  ( Suddenly Trump, a man we have known and watched throughout his very public life, a man with a Jewish daughter and grandchildren, is racist!)

Thank whatever gods may be for the sane confirmation of external reality from such impeccable sources.

There is no objective evidence for either of these assertions. I remain Never(EverEver)Trump and will continue to remain so. I didn’t vote for him in 2016 and wouldn’t under any circumstances vote for him if he were to stand for election again (which, I would assert, is not a guarantee).

On a positive note, today’s news that the loathesome Steve Bannon will be exiting will make the single-malt scotch taste a little better this evening.

I’ll stand by my opinions and reassess them over his time in office.  Only time will tell , quite a bit of time in fact, which one of us will be correct but I will Never (Ever Ever) regret Trump’s election win from a gun nut perspective nor a progressive-hater perspective.  We all have our priorities.  Take care of yourself tiger.

He is the President at the moment, but our founders gave us the checks and balances to provide for his removal, including impeachment and the ratification of the 25th Amendment.

We can have all of the positives with a President Pence, without the verbal and twitter incontinence of Trump.

    One trick pony.  Please stop.

    No, you can’t. Sorry.

I think that this theory will be tested.

Do you believe that our country was well served by President Ford?

I actually liked President Ford and favored him over Reagan as the 1980 nominee.  That was a mistaken judgment on my part, soon corrected.  But Ford was poisoned by the Nixon impeachment proceedings and aftermath.

Do you think corporate welfare will be safer with President Trump out of office?

I don’t know about corporate welfare.  But what I remember is that Ford came in with a huge amount of good-will which was mostly disapated after the pardon.  (In retrospect most observers believe that Ford did the right thing by pardoning Nixon.)

I think that if Pence follows conservative policies of Trump without Trump’s verbal incontinence, Pence will be able to be an effective president, and will be able to follow the two term pattern the United States has had since World War II, with the sole exceptions caused by (a) Reagan beating Carter, and (b) HW Bush getting Reagan’s third term.

If Trump stays in office, I will work as hard as I can to primary him.  Even if we lose in the primary, we win in the general election by Trump losing in the general election.  (Historically, incumbent presidents who were primaried end up losing in the general election.  Ford was primaried by Reagan in 1976 and loses to Carter; Carter was primaried by Kennedy in 1980 and loses to Reagan; HW Bush was primaried by Buchanan in 1992, and loses to Clinton.)

Finally, why is Gary Robbins so dead set against Trump?  Aside from him reminding me of high school bullies, and my strong suspicion of neurological deficits (see videos of Trump in the 1990’s when he was articulate), and his suggestion that there were some “good” Nazis or White Supremacists on Tuesday, August 15th, Trump’s original sin in my mind was his promotion of Birtherism, even after Obama produced his long form birth certificate.  I don’t and won’t support people for President who think that the earth is flat, or who are 9/11 Truthers, or who are Birthers.  Period.  Full Stop.

Corporate welfare is way down the list of things that concern me about Trump.  What concerns me is his authoritarianism, his embrace of the good White Supremacists, and his neurological deficits.  I object to him, not his policies.  And I will work to defeat him.

I didn’t think of putting this thread on member only.  It’s a nothing thread beyond a dude tuning out. Trying.  And it’s embarrassing when so many great pieces come and go.   A few things in my first few years should have been promoted.  A few things in my last couple years shouldn’t.  This is one.

And don’t answer Gary please.  Zzzzzzzz.

Oh and Elk? You going to Wyoming? If so give Rick Poach a call or an IM here on Ricochet.

Wyoming has some mighty awesome elk. In fact, elk hunting is so important there that we always had a school holiday on Oct. 15 because it was the opening day of elk season. Everyone went hunting.  People went hunting to to feed the family, or  you could earn big dollars from an out-of-state hunter to be their guide–(by law, out of state hunters had to have a local guide.)

In fact, we ate a lot of elk meat in our school lunches. Many of those out-of-state hunters couldn’t, or didn’t want to, take the meat back home. They mostly wanted the antlers, so the guides would take the meat and donate it to the school district. It made lovely chili, meatloaf, and sloppy joes. I seriously couldn’t tell the difference between beef and elk as a child.

One of my daughters mused once, “Hey, Mom, do you realize that we are the only one of our relatives that don’t have a dead animal head hanging on the wall?” True….a mounted elk head, or at least the antlers, were a staple of home decor in Wyoming.

Of course, we were living in San Diego at the time, and my husband didn’t go hunting any more. He’d had a enough of it when he was working for his family’s outfitting business as a teenager. I didn’t go hunting, unlike some of my sisters. Bring me your dead animal, and I will make you a meal, but I didn’t enjoy making it dead.
