This brings back memories of my youth in the Appalachian hills of western Maine.

Then, living here south of Atlanta, I rejoice that they are memories. (-:

Isn’t there still just a wee part of you that wants to make a snowman in the front yard and then defend him from the neighborhood kids in a rollicking snowball fight ? ?

I have made a snowman here in Atlanta.  Once, when my children were very young.  The raw material was gone the next day, and the snowman a couple days later.  It was glorious.

Now you’re talkin’! Growing up in Pgh, my memories of winter were fun! Now that I’m older though, I’ll remember and take the Florida winters!

We live in the desert and we, too, have four seasons: Early-Summer, Summer, Late-Summer, and eight days of Winter-ish.

    I know. I know. . . but still . . .

This is our first entire winter in Florida and I’m almost relieved it’s been mild up north so that I haven’t missed the neighborhood kids frolicking in a fresh foot of snow.   They even made a snowman for me last year.

The desert has its own unique beauty even without the seasons.  My dear aunt introduced me to it almost 20 years ago.  I’ll never forget her remarking: ” Cathy.  The desert’s alive!”  She was right. I’m so grateful to her and miss her so.
