MTV, Then and Now

Watch these three promotional videos from MTV, and see how far the front lines in the culture wars have moved in the last 25 years.

What was once edgy and hip is now something to be derided by emasculated males standing in front of a pink background.

That last video better be a parody, or else Trump is surely headed for re-election in 2020.

I remember those Denis Leary spots on MTV.How did I make it through the 90’s being bombarded with all of this hate speech and no safe space in sight?

Too bad Denis Leary jumped the sort of lefty bandwagon during the election considering his whole shtick back then was basically being a disgruntled white guy in a sea of over sensitive, whiny liberal pansies. Should have stuck by his guns like Nick Dipaolo and Colin Quinn

Which means that his shtick was probably an insincere act all along. A character he created that he never really liked. It was just an act to make money, and oh, F#&% all you yokels that actually actually agreed with my monologues. I’ve already got your money.  Suckers.

    Then there’ this:

Yeah, but that appears to be the edited version without…

“See the little (bleep) with the earring and the make up
Yeah buddy that’s his own hair
That little (bleep) got his own jet airplane
That little (bleep) he’s a millionaire”

“In January 2011, the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (CBSC) ruled that the unedited version of the song was unacceptable for air play on private Canadian radio stations, as it breached the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ (CAB) Code of Ethics and their Equitable Portrayal Code.”

(Sounds like an anti-Mark Steyn panel…)

“(The original) was Dire Straits’ most commercially successful single, peaking at number 1 for three weeks in the United States, number 1 for three weeks on the US Top Rock Tracks chart and number 4 in the band’s native UK. ‘Money for Nothing’ won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1986 at the 28th Annual Grammy Awards and the video won Video of the Year at the 3rd MTV Video Music Awards.”

I haven’t heard the original version for 100 years.  It’s as if it never existed.  Hmm – maybe the Russians again.

Not helpful!  I need support and encouragement through this difficult transition period.  Speaking of which, how about going full transgender.  Your thoughts?

Skip going gay. Go tranny, instead, and self-identify as a woman . . . a lesbian woman. That allows you to be edgy (what could be edgier than the twofer of being both gay and transgender?), while still enjoying yourself.

Just thinking out loud but really haven’t thought this through.  I’m thinking that when I become gay it will be easier for me to pick up a couple or more bisexual chicks from time to time and watch and/or catch my breath while they enjoy each others company.  Good plan?  Any downside to this idea?

The stigmatizing of white males is starting to get under my skin, because I know it isn’t harmless. Laugh all you want, but I say it’s time for their women to aggressively stand up for them.

And I say “males” because not everyone potentially effected is a man yet. My 8 year old grandson happens to be white.

And the irony of that fact is so very ironic. The very same Free-Love, anything-goes, don’t-trust-anybody-over-30 crowd, who in their youth rebelled at the restrictions of conventional society now are the most restrictive, narrow-thinking, fascist wannabes in the country.

This is a surprise, why? Most revolutionaries become reactionary once the revolution succeeds and they hold the reins of power.

I’ll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
    Just like yesterday
Then I’ll get on my knees and pray
    We don’t get fooled again

    Re: 52 and 53

These comments remind me that 45 or more years ago, my Dad called the hippies the flower fascists.

And, over 45 years, I’ve seen that anyone who makes a big point of describing him or herself as a free spirit is a control freak.

He certainly had Nick Dipaolo and Colin Quinn as examples of what could happen to him…..but then, unless he lost all his money, it probably has more to do with fitting in with his hard left comedian friends.

Ahh, the glory days of Headbangers’ Ball, the long delayed counter-punch to decades of hippie daydreams. I like to think heavy metal was a masculine overture before itself went off the rails into emo nihilism.

As Leary said once, John Wayne was America’s greatest president. ?

In some ways, the heavy metal era of the 80s was a tribute to the excesses of the decade. It was about more partying, more drugs, more women, more guitars, more loudness, more mayhem, more outrageousness especially in the glam subgenre.

MTV, like rock and roll, was originally about sticking it to The Man. Now, they are The Man.

It was about challenging authority, now they are the authority and challenges are not allowed.

It was about freedom of speech. Now its about freedom of speech but only that they approve of.

It was about rejecting conformity, now its all about PC conformity.

It was about freedom of thought, now its about jackboot SJWs policing thoughtcrimes.

That’s the thing about revolution, the wheel always turns.
