Jamie Lockett: Do you always live down to other’s expectations?

There’s a step missing in there between Trump and the alt-right. Trump could exist alone apart from racist.

And the people who did that were demonized just as if they were the current crowd.

True, but they weren’t merely demonized. The regime used the armed might of the state to wreck their lives, should they continue their defiance.

The Republican party did nothing about it, ever, except to hold a few impotent hearings after the deed was done.

Hence, Trump- and hence the “alt-right.”

Excusing racism, anti-semitism, sexism and violent threats because you’re mad Lois Lerner isn’t in jail? Ok.

Yes, they used this passion to sweep them into greater power, and then did….nothing different.

Yep because after Obamacare the Democrats managed to get card check and stricter gun control measures through congress. Not to mention that massive carbon tax we’re now all subject to.

Are you REALLY going to argue that Matthew 5:40 applied to the government?

This is why the Alt Right rose. They got sick of Republicans telling themselves it was OK to lose because it made them more virtuous.

By all means please explain to me why the actions of bureaucrats justify the behavior directed at David French. I can’t wait.

That’s patently absurd.  The alt-right is evil.  They rose because they are evil, and evil is hard to keep down.

It’s an erroneous argument anyway. “Nice” didn’t get us all those seats in 2014. Picking up after ourselves didn’t get us all those statehouses. Being royally PO’d and doing something about it did. Anger got us those seats. Not manners. Manners speak well of you in politics, but they’re not the point. I’d rather have a lout that listens to my frustrations and acts, rather than a two-faced politician with impeccable manners that will lie to me skillfully until I go away.

Incorrect. They rose because they are racists. They cater to the baser instincts of human nature and cultivate the right’s version of grievance mongering. They seek to prove the left’s caricature of the right to have been too kind.

The Alt Right includes some nasty characters… the guys at the Daily Shoah type of stuff… but most of it is simply made of of people that got tired of the regular right not doing it’s job. Thus, “Alt”. More of them than not are simply non-PC types sick of excuses and the status quo. Lots were faithful Republicans and Tea Party vets before.

And what has anger provided for us? When we lose when being civil is not an indictment of civility. I will accept that the GOP has not been as effective as promised because of stupidity or cowardice, but not because their were too few a-holes in the party. We lose two elections in a row and decide to jettison thirty years of core beliefs. Now we get to lose three.

There is the attempt to morally equate actual violence and threats with the timing of a blog post (ignoring, of course, the other posts that have been written at NRO, here, and elsewhere throughout 2016).

On reflection, I find my sympathy for Mr. French rather thin.

He is complaining about the standard tactics of the left. Enormous numbers of Americans have had firsthand experience with this sort of thing, and the left gets evermore more brazen and ruthless, every year. Conservatives have been driven out of entire fields of academic study- perhaps all of academia soon- and the left has worked hard to keep them out of government as well, with great success. I shall refrain from discussing the media, for obvious reasons.

The response from the so-called mainstream right and the Republican party has never risen above impotent hand-wringing. It never seems to have occurred to them to use their control of Congress, or the entire government a few years ago, to do anything about this legislatively. I do not recall ever hearing any presidential nominee, other than Trump, complain about this, at all.

Welcome to the party, Mr. French. Many millions of us have been stuck here our entire lives. You are enjoying the bitter fruit of the abject failure of the Republican party and the conservative movement to represent your supporters and prevent their mistreatment at the hands of the left.

Having lost faith in the usual suspects, people are starting to go with what works.

This is unfortunate- but by the time Preston Brooks clubbed Senator Sumner, something very ugly was already baked into the national cake.

    Too late now, folks.

How is the fact that the left fights dirty an explanation for racism on the right and violent threats directed at a conservative journalist by the alt-right?

Regarding the term Alt-Right:  It is a very broad brush.  Let me describe 3 I do know.

The writers at Taki are, by and large, writers who used to pen regular pieces for National Review, American Spectator, and other similar outlets (you’ll find writers there from Pat Buchanan, to Theodore Dalrymple, to Joe Bob Briggs).  A mix of Paleocons, remnants of the old aristocratic right, and other oddballs.  Their unifying principle, if there is one, is a hostility to the current crew running National Review.

Operating at a completely different level are sites like Roosh’s Return of Kings, a site loosely described as a men’s rights and pick-up advice site.  Young, professional, and deeply hostile to modern political correctness.

Vdare is something else again – a site dedicated both to severe immigration restriction, and to pushing the notion that there are actual biological traits to race beyond mere physical appearance.  Not racist per se, but their arguments are often latched onto by racists.

What, then, groups these as Alt-Right?  By their own definition a desire to preserve Western Culture and Western values while not surrendering to political correctness or apologizing to a hostile Left.  None of these outlets are, however, racist.

There are certainly racist outlets out there.  There are overtly anti-semitic sites too.  There are the lunatic sites like Prison Planet (of Alex Jones fame).  There are conspiratorialist sites too, like Lew Rockwell.

I resent the fact that you say I’m trying to peddle false flag conspriacies as I’m doing no such thing. All I’m trying to do is understand from which rock these horrible people crawled out. If you give any credence to the’O’Keefe videos we’ve seen where the Dems have started riots at the Trump rallies, then it certainly is believable that the Dem black ops could be at work with the alt right. Neither of us can know for certain what is at work here, but I find the alt right completely distasteful and had genuinely never heard of them until they recently came up in this campaign. Do you not acknowledge the possibility of Dem involvement here?

Nice try Sonof, but I made two observations. Making two observations in one comment does not require moral equivalence, or even demand it.

But false equivalence , like blaming Mr Trump for actions of nasty people is a really good tactic of the left, well honed.

BTW, I do not blame the Beatles for Charlie Manson either. I expect you might.
