Russia Is a Threat, But Not Because They’re Hacking John Podesta’s Emails

A Russian fleet is steaming toward Syria from the North Sea through the English Channel. The New York Times, formerly a newspaper, has no information about this anywhere on the front page and none on its world page either. You can read about how Egypt is having a sugar shortage and people with a sweet tooth are undergoing hardship because of it — no, really, you can — but you won’t be able to read about the real growing threat from Russia.

Russia is a potential  threat, so is China.    Bad mouthing and overt hostility to one, frees the other.  Doing so as part of a political campaign is meaningless and probably counter productive.   Diplomacy with these sorts is best conducted quietly but with really big sticks.   Contrast Kissinger/Nixon’s response to Soviet sub bases with Kennedy’s to Soviet missiles.   Kennedy’s was loud and belligerent in public but obsequious in private and almost led to war.  Kissenger’s was missed by everyone except the Soviets.   Trump isn’t as inept  as his critics project on him.

Thanks for the reminder that there is other “BIG” news and this is a doozy.  My sister and I had a long talk and it is really like the pieces of a puzzle are coming together – the picture is scary, but I truly believe all of us here are on the right side of history – that we were born for a time such as this.  If we go down, it will be swinging.  This election is proof.

Evidently, the Russians have determined that force will be necessary because Trump is now unlikely to be elected and give them whatever they want. It’s Trump’s fault.

    Pub,

Think it through. Hillary talks like a robot and the reset lunacy was real American foreign policy. On top of this, she & CGI did the Uranium deal. There is nothing real about her and she doesn’t give a damn about American interests. Meanwhile, Trump is always somewhere in a perpetual word salad. However, if for one second he thought Putin was pulling nonsense he’d want it stopped dead. He doesn’t like bad deals. What are the odds that Putin pisses him off in the first six months?

The biggest nuclear threat on the planet and Clinton’s answer was to give them a plastic button (“ha, ha ha. Get it? At least were not Bush”). That was her diplomacy. And our relationship with them today is better? I don’t think so.

I only saw this about 10 minutes ago so I’m in the process of vetting it out now, but ironic timing either way.

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/ways-russia-telling-people-prepare-war/story?id=42800992

Was just reading that article when you posted it. The Washington Post also did one a few days ago that was trying to make light of everything & explain it all. I’m not one to say the sky is falling or cry wolf, but there do seem to be a lot of things falling into place at the right time. It could all be coincidence & there could be no connection, that’s happened plenty of times before. Just seems odd to me.

I read the story about Rusia calling people home a couple of days ago and thought maybe it was not reliable since I didn’t see any familiar and like minds pick up on it.  It’s very hard to know how to read the news anymore. And it’s easy to feel like an alarmist. Then again, legitimate alarm and paranoia probably feel a lot alike in the early stages.

Why would anybody go to war with a Clinton?  War is about getting your way.  With a Clinton it is much cheaper to just buy them than fight them.

In June 2016 Erdogan wrote a letter to Putin in which he apologized for the shooting down of the fighter jet. The Turkish president emphasized that he still regarded Russia as a “friend” and “strategic partner,” and said he wanted to improve bilateral relations again. Putin responded by lifting the ban on the sale of package holidays to Turkey. The plan is for other sanctions gradually to be lifted as well.

However, a meeting between Erdogan and Putin in St. Petersburg in August of this year showed that while both parties are prepared for a rapprochement, neither wants to alter its position on foreign policy. The subject of Syria was simply not addressed. The two sides agreed to continue negotiations over the construction of the Turkish Stream pipeline and the Russian-designed nuclear power plant in Akkuyu, as well as the creation of a free trade zone. However, even now, cooperation between Turkey and Russia cannot be said to have returned to previous levels.

Wait, wait. If Russia believes Hillary would be easier to persuade/buy-off/play-chicken-with, why are they releasing the emails? We need to vote for the guy Russia is stumping for because he is the only one who will stand up to their aggression? Am I taking crazy pills?

Are we all falling back on the framework “republican = good on foreign policy; democrat = bad on foreign policy” without taking into account any evidence to the contrary in this instance?

    Memorandum

    To: File

From: Anyone who has been paying attention

Re: Why is Putin sending his fleet to the Mediterranean?

The failed CIA/NATO coup attempt against Erdogan in which some NATO agents were inconveniently discovered, convinced him to make up with Russia, apologize for shooting down their jet and ink that pipeline deal.

Oh, well. Looks like the puppet didn’t play along and he knows he’s got a strong hand so he’s playing it. Now that the Wikileaks leaks have uncovered the Rothschild family backing the Clintons, I’m sure that will all go just swimmingly if she’s elected and she can pick up where she left off.

    Sincerely,

I was of the belief a foreign actor likely hacked Hillary’s server, but the DNC seemed like such a paltry target for world affairs with more implications and motivation for a local hacker. Either way, I’m guessing both were hacked by the same party.

As to the Russia danger, I must eat my words, @valiuth. However, understand that it isn’t with a small amount of trepidation as I think our domestic policies have put us in a position where we will have to make them a priority.

To be overshadowed by a Russian war only leaves our domestic issues to fester and worsen in perpetuity.

To add, I am not conceding HRC is better. The assumption Putin his helping Trump win is unfounded outside a joke about Hill’s hacked server and deleted emails.

This analysis is for DNC hack only.  I have yet to see anything about Who is behind the Podesta emails.  While I understand that the DNC IT staff blew it and their network was compromised for about a year the google IT staff are a different thing.  The Democrats want to call this one event by one hack group, maybe it is and maybe it is not but I have yet to hear any proof on how Podesta email was compromised.  Till I do I will withhold my judgement on it.

The DNC hack look like a foreign actor or a big player.  The way I have heard the hack described sounds like they either had their own asset or a DNC employee install the hacking software on the network.  I would not be surprised if it was an inside job of some sort or a social engineered entry point.  It also seems like there was two different hacking groups involved that acted like they were not coordinated.  This hacker is thought to be Russian.

The Podesta hack sounds more like a social engineer password crack.  Though it might be that the entry point was not google but instead Podesta’s equipment.  This hacker is unknown.

Nobody knows if HRC server was hacked.  Though secondary info suggests one account was.  It sounds like her security was nonexistent but that does not mean it was hacked, just that it is likely given her status and lack of security.  Any emails from her server so far have come via the FBI and FOIA requests.  This hacker is thought to be by China.
