Russia Is a Threat, But Not Because They’re Hacking John Podesta’s Emails
A Russian fleet is steaming toward Syria from the North Sea through the English Channel. The New York Times, formerly a newspaper, has no information about this anywhere on the front page and none on its world page either. You can read about how Egypt is having a sugar shortage and people with a sweet tooth are undergoing hardship because of it — no, really, you can — but you won’t be able to read about the real growing threat from Russia.

MT,
Britain has noticed these unwelcome visitors.
Navy to man-mark Channel-bound Russian warships

Can’t they be a threat for both reasons?
I’d say, “Arrrrggghh!” But, I feel more like “whimper…”
Teresa May has called out the Russians for aggression.
You’re right, Mama Toad. They are a real threat. But I agree–people are either obsessed with cybersecurity, are in denial, or just don’t get it.
Last year, Russia threatened Denmark with a nuclear strike if the country participated in NATO’s missile shield program.
It is funny that you posted this today as I stumbled across some articles today suggesting that the Russian government is urging their citizens to bring relatives home, back to Russia. I only saw this about 10 minutes ago so I’m in the process of vetting it out now, but ironic timing either way.
Sweden is preparing for a Russian invasion. At the end of last month, the Swedes reiterated that although they were not seeking to join NATO, at the same time they increased their readiness to meet a Russian invasion in the Baltics and increased their ability to coordinate strategically with NATO.
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) warns that NATO is not prepared to meet the increasing threat from Russia.
USNI reports increasing Russian sub activity in the North Atlantic.
Zero Hedge reports that “Russia is in fact deploying the largest naval force since end of Cold War to reinforce its Syria campaign.”

Call me a libertarian anarchist, but I think the idea of John Podesta’s emails being readable by you and me the opposite of a threat. I love transparency and openness.
Not that I am confident that Russia is behind the hacks.
Was just reading that article when you posted it. The Washington Post also did one a few days ago that was trying to make light of everything & explain it all. I’m not one to say the sky is falling or cry wolf, but there do seem to be a lot of things falling into place at the right time. It could all be coincidence & there could be no connection, that’s happened plenty of times before. Just seems odd to me.
I never believe in coincidence.
CB,
If Britain had America behind her, not the floppy eared idiot but the real America, Theresa would have just told the Russians no go around the long way.

Jim
Dear Lord, hear our prayer…
Great post.
Fair enough, but what we don’t know is what Russia read that we want no one to know about.
With such a large task force, wouldn’t it be a good time to test our anti-ship missile systems?

There’s a power void in the world, and Putin is making decisive moves to fill it.
Meanwhile, Obama golfs.

Channel transit of Ruskie Navy and INF violation in today’s online NYT.
Sounds like an EU issue. I am sure they are up to the challenge.
If not Obama the Great Unifier can give a speech and call them to task. If he gets real excited he might even get Michelle Obama to deploy a #hashtag. That will set them running.
My son must have seen the same thing. He scatter-shot a message to friends and family suggesting that we make sure we’ve all taken care of our “preparedness” needs.
ct,
Madame Pantsuit will use a much larger reset button this time.

Perhaps so, but I never said the NYT had no articles on its site on this issue. What I clearly stated in my OP was that there was no mention of these headlines, at least not at the time I posted, on either the Front page or the World page.
The first article I found was something out of the Daily Mail & I’ve found a few more detailing different things since then. Someone came in to where I work rambling on about it & I figured they were just pulling something off of some backwater site shared on Facebook. Did some digging & found it. Of course, there are some Infowars & other sites running with it as well, so who knows.
